When this hits your inbox, I am currently on Trip 2 out of 4 of my back-to-back {to-back-to-back LOL} travels. As someone who loves to see new places yet thrives on routine, there is a mix of all the feels this month.
Lots of travel separated from some or all of my family which I don’t like, yet a trip sprinkled in with my ZYIA sisters and a trip coming up with all four Team Sells that I LOVE, so I’m finding peace and joy in all of it.
Are you more of a go-with-the-flow type of person or do you prefer a schedule/routine?
I’m nearly 6 months into my #5kaday2024 challenge and you can bet I’m NOT going to miss a day! So it’s crucial for me to plan ahead when I’m traveling - where am I running, will it be indoors or outdoors, what time will I be running to not interfere with that day’s activities, what will I need to pack for success {ie my running shoes, knee sleeve, etc}. For outdoor runs I will plan them ahead of time if there is a safe place to go near our hotels, for indoor runs I stack my Peloton tread workouts for each day.
2. STAY INTENTIONAL with your nutrition!!
Traveling means I’m not eating the same foods or cooking like I do at home - and that’s ok, I don’t mind the break! But that also means to maintain optimal nutrition and feel GOOD during my daily workouts, I am very intentional with the foods I eat. Prioritizing protein is the biggest one- at least if I know I’m getting my lean proteins in during the day, I can create margin for the rest! Your girl also has a big sweet tooth, so I definitely indulge in goodies while traveling but I’m not just snacking to snack. Mindful eating is key!
3. EARLY MORNINGS equal success!!
Let’s be honest - traveling with kids, sharing hotel rooms together, later nights, etc all compound - making it harder to stay on track.
I definitely don’t feel as rested when I’m away from home, but I ALWAYS prioritize my early morning hours to get in my workouts before everyone wakes up. It’s not always ideal, sometimes it’s REALLY early depending on baseball games etc that day, but I know if I don’t make the time it won’t happen. Laying out my clothes, shoes, room key, ear buds, and headband the night before allows me to quietly get up and slip out without rummaging through my suitcase in the dark or waking anyone up!
Flexibility while on vacation is key, but also planning ahead can help you stay focused & intentional!!!
