Hi friends,
I am sending you this note after a nine-day holiday in Jordan, the longest of the year, which I discovered not all the Arab world shared!
I have around one month left to start my maternity leave (If you missed the news, yes! I am pregnant 🤰 with my third baby and due in a few weeks), and let me tell you, those nesting hormones kicked the door in and dominated my life in the holiday!
I spent most of it decluttering old baby clothes, donating most of my daughter’s, and sorting through my son’s to see what we could use for his baby brother on the way. Then, I washed what I wanted to keep for the baby and what got yellowed by storage. My deep decluttering hormones have been so helpful in making ruthless decisions about what to let go of. I was lucky to have my in-laws’ helper with me the whole time to help me throughout the process.
Another major project that I almost finished is my 10-year-old daughter’s room. It was overloaded with toys and trinkets she accumulated over the years, and she’s now ready to part with them to make room for her new interests at this age. She needed my help deciding what to keep and what to let go of, but she was more ready than I had expected.
Fun parts:
- Finding super cute clothes from the first years of my kids’ lives that I forgot about.
- Hidden in the upper closet: the decorations box for my daughter’s first birthday, which she had never seen before. It was Frozen-themed (before you judge, the movie was still new then, and the idea felt original). We kept some parts and got rid of the rest after taking pictures and, of course, singing (let it go!).
Not so fun:
- Finding cute baby clothes that got yellowed by storage.
- Laundry room exploding with baby clothes that needed to be washed before making decisions about them.
- Needing to rest frequently to keep going. Resting, however, meant bickering time for my kids.
- Feeling cocooned and disconnected from the outer world and not answering WhatsApp voice notes (Was this a preview of my maternity leave?).
Gratitude Moment:
My husband was absent during the holiday as my father-in-law had a major surgery that, thankfully, went well. It was a big scare for my kids and the family, but God mercifully answered our prayers, and Grandpa Faris is coming home tomorrow. Please pray for his full recovery.

As we start a new week, I hope you have a smooth transition back to work or whatever you were up to before this holiday. I hope you make the best of the latest sunsets of the year.
