Finding the right manufacturer can feel like searching for your headlight in the dark. But don’t worry, there are a few trusty tools to guide us! Here are some of the best ways I’ve found to source products:

- Google Searches: The simplest tool in my kit. I’ve been starting with broad terms like “pillow cover manufacturers” and narrowing it down based on specific needs 

(e.g., “custom pillow cover manufacturers”).

- Alibaba.com: A fantastic resource for finding overseas manufacturers. I’m using specific keywords and taking advantage of filters to refine my search. I’m looking for manufacturers with good reviews and a track record of quality products.

- Word of Mouth: Sometimes the best resources are right in front of us. I’ve been asking fellow artists and small business owners if they know of any manufacturers who could help. Networking can uncover some hidden gems.

 

- What is your MOQ (minimum order quantity)?

- What is the price per piece?

- Do you offer packaging?

 

Check out some of these simple shots of conversations I am having. It doesn’t have to be complicated in the beginning. We just need to start. These are three different responses I received on Alibaba.com when I asked vendors for pricing per piece and MOQ!

Based on the above interactions I am going to narrow down ordering samples from a couple of factories. I am already selling linen tea towels and really love the quality. I am going to stick with linen for a sample. Based on the pricing and MOQs, I am going to move forward and get my files ready to order samples! Eeeek! Things are getting real!
