This is pretty exciting! The inaugural Omaha Dining Digest has been a long-time coming. I send out a weekly events email on Monday called the Omaha Planner filled with stuff for families, and this stuff just didn't fit in it. Now these awesome events have a home! - The Hy-Vee located at 10808 Fort St. is having a Character Steak Night on July 11 from 4 to 7 p.m., featuring two characters that may or may not be from Sponge Bob Squarepants (licensing reason, I'm sure). Cost for an entree of 8 oz steak, potato, and green beans is $10; kids meal of hot dog, chips, and cookie is $5.
- There's a Kolache Pop-Up at The Fireside Banquet Room, 841 Tara Plaza, Papillion, Neb., on July 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. Kolaches sold out in under an hour at their previous sale.
- Try edible cookie dough at Dough & Co. pop up events coming up: Papillion Hy-Vee Shadow Lake on July 12 from 4 to 8 p.m., Gretna Farmers Market on July 13 from 8 a.m. to noon, and Ashland Stir Up Days on July 20 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Sweet Corn Fest is July 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Miller Dohrmann Farm, 10025 N. 48th St. In addition to corn, there will be bluegrass and Old Time music, wagon rides, Little Mountain Ranch Meats, and Sweets by Lindy and Michelles's Breads.
- Corn Festival is July 13 & 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Nelson Produce + Farm, 10505 N. 234th St., Valley, Neb. Highlights include All-You-Can-Eat corn, picking corn, hayrack ride, scavenger hunt, and face painting. Tickets are $15 for ages 4+
- Midwest Tacos & Tequila Fest is July 13 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Falconwood Park, 905 Allied Road, Bellevue, Neb., featuring food, margaritas, live performers, DJs, bandas, play zone, and vendors. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 day off for adults (18+), and $5 in advance and $10 day off for kids (4-11). Kids 3 and under are free.
- Midtown Brew Hop, sponsored by Site-1 Brewing, is July 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the following Midtown Crossing establishments: Graze Craze, Pa Mas Taqueria & Grill, Proof Whiskey Bar & Craft Cocktails, Ray’s Wings Pizza & Drinks, Smokin’ Oak Wood-Fired Pizza + Taproom, Sofra Kitchen, and Stories Coffee Company. Sip incredible flavors at each stop (visit as many as you like in any order you like) and vote for your top brew of the day.
- The 17th Annual Cajunfest is July 13 at 5 p.m. at Slattery Vintage Estates. 8925 Adams St., Nehawka, Neb. Food includes gumbo, etouffee, muffuletta sandwiches, beans & rice, and bread pudding. Live music by Swampboy Blues Band starts at 7. Cover is $10.
- Upcoming classes at The Bubbly Tart, 3020 Leavenworth St., include Cake Decorating on July 13 at 3 p.m., Cake Decorating on July 14 at 11 a.m., Afternoon Tea on July 20 at 1 p.m., Brunch Tea on July 21 at 11 a.m., Brunch Tea on July 28 at 11 a.m., Cake Decorating on Aug. 4 at 11 a.m., and Macaron Class on Aug. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Prices vary. - Chippy's, 2718 S. 123rd Court, will have a Traditional Yorkshire Sunday Lunch on July 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservation required. Cost is $22.99.
- The Maid Cafe experience will be held at Bureikou Tea & More, 134 N. Washington St., Suite 100, Papillion, Neb., on July 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 and includes choice of main food, dessert, and specialty drinks.
- Jewel's Mountain Tea will have a Bridgerton Tea Party on July 14 at 1 p.m. at The Fireside, 841 Tara Plaza, Papillion, Neb. Tickets are $45 and includes food and tea, plus the first cocktail or mocktail.
- Remember the Summer Birthday Party: A Cocktail Thing at Anna's Place, 1802 Dodge St., is July 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $65 and include four specialty cocktails and light appetizers.
- Railcar Modern American Kitchen, 1814 N. 144th St., has a wine dinner on July 15 at 6:30 p.m. featuring Terra D'Oro Winery with wine maker, Emily Haines. Cost is $65 per person.
- Willie Dogs will be at Monolithic Brewing, 4915 N. 120th St., for the Fourth Annual National Hot Dog Day on July 17 from 3 to 7 p.m.
- J.Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood, 1010 Capital Ave., will have a Don Julio Tequila Dinner on July 18 at 6 p.m. The four-course pairing is $85 per person. Reservations can be made by calling (531) 222-9218.
- Kara's Kookies Cookie Classes at Coffee Alley-Callejon del Cafe, 7310 Harrison St., La Vista, Neb., on July 20 from noon to 2 p.m. (Sand and Sugar) and July 27 from noon to 2 p.m. (Under the Sea). Classes are $50.
- Oso Good Kitchen and Panaderya will have a pop-up at Dusk Goods and Gifts, 1234 S. 13th St., on July 20 & 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Butter Brickle Ice Cream Day will be held on National Ice Cream Day, July 21, from noon to 4 p.m at Turner Park at Midtown Crossing. Butter brickle ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery will be $2 per bowl for the first 500 attendees, and live entertainment includes O.NE Finest Dance Studio, Mister K’s Clubhouse and Stomp Chomp and Roar. - Charcuterie Classes at Lauritzen Gardens, 100 Bancroft St., are July 26, Aug. 16, and Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. Led by Sandy Vacanti of Artisan Boards of Omaha, you'll learn how to create and design a board to take home (one board per two-person registration). A custom board will be provided to sample from during the event. Cost is $100 for non-members, $85 for garden members (two people per registration).
- Summer Sweets Cookie Decorating at Mangelsen's, 3457 S. 84th St., is July 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This beginner class is $65.
- The Ninth Annual Bloody Mary Mix Off is July 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Founders One Nine, 1915 Jackson St. The fundraiser benefits Nebraska Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation, and includes brunch and unlimited Bloody Mary samples from every competitor. Tickets are $35-$500. Must be 21+.

- Baker's Candies announced plans to expand in 2025. The planned 14,000-square-foot building in Greenwood, Neb., will be among the largest candy outlets in the world.
- Happy Mango Bakery's Grand Opening in July 27. To celebrate, there will be balloon artists, face painters and raffles from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The new bakery is at 9625 Giles Road, La Vista, Neb.
- Cattle Call, a wine and cocktail bar serving late-night food, is now open at 300 S. 16th St.
- Saddle Creek Breakfast Club officially reopened in Countryside Village at 8734 Pacific St., according to Grow Omaha.
- The smoothie and health food shop Cafe Botanica has opened a third Nebraska location at 2575 S. 171st Court, according to Grow Omaha.
- Orange Leaf frozen yogurt franchise recently announced the grand opening of its newest Omaha location inside the Holiday Inn at 1420 Cuming St.
- The Cake Gallery has temporarily relocated to 12100 West Center Road, Suite 605. Production is limited until they reopen in their official space, so only 30-40 ULTRAmoist cakes will be made on select Saturdays (July 13, July 27, and Aug. 10). Order early, it's first-come, first serve. Their number is 402-397-2253.
- Collect passport stamps for Zooventure at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, and once you collect all six, you can redeem it at participating Blue Sushi Sake Grill locations for a free Kid's Bento Box. The summer program takes place from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily through Aug. 4.
