Happy Monday and welcome to this week's edition of Truth Be Told. Today we want to share some “secret” LinkedIn tips with you because our founder, Juliet, has been experimenting in what she's dubbing her “LinkedIn Sandbox” for several months now. After loads of trial and error, here's her take on what she's learned so far: - The look and feel of your page matters. Your banner image and “about me” content are the most important features to take advantage of if you want to increase your engagement and maximize your networking capabilities. Both will also constantly evolve. So you'll need to get comfortable using banner design tools like Canva. You should create a banner that matches your branding because this is your first impression with potential customers; make sure it conveys an accurate picture of who you are and matches the look/feel of your website. Same goes for the text in the “about me” section. Be sure you're not just regurgitating your resume. Instead, use it as an opportunity to make yourself stand out and highlight your strengths and notable achievements. Personalize it!
- The newsletter feature is worth it. It looks simple enough: Write about things that you're doing in your business and hit share! Turns out, there's a little more to it than that. This all comes back to that cohesive branding: First, you want your image and content to reflect your brand. I spent a fair amount of time deciding on the vibe of my newsletter and the types of things I wanted to share. Once I landed on that, it's made sharing my weekly thoughts so much easier. The work is worth it, too: LinkedIn newsletters are a great way to connect with existing leads and to create new ones (read this issue to find out more about that), and they also allow you to build a nice library of all of the content you've created.
- Find a way to connect. We want to avoid spamming people at all costs, while also creating authentic relationships. One way I've been trying to go beyond just hitting “connect” or “follow” is to add a GIF to my invite. It allows me to add a more human element to the request.

It's a way to say ‘Hi, I'm here and it's so nice to meet you!' without just typing it out. I haven't landed on the perfect GIF just yet – I'm realizing that background, lighting and props matter more than I thought – but I'll give you an update in the next issue about how it's worked! |
