The Trolls Have Arrived in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota!
The Trolls have arrived! In the “biggest and most ambitious exhibition” of his career, Danish recycle artist Thomas Dambo and his trash-to-treasure crew created nine larger-than-live sculptures for our Detroit Lakes’ project. This treasure-hunt-themed exhibition is made up of five charming trolls, one rabbit, and three mysterious portals or mirrors placed in and between Fargo, ND and Perham, MN. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the team that brought this permanent exhibition to Detroit Lakes. (My role was in marketing and PR, not in building these GIGANTIC creatures 😉.)  You can check out all the details and start your Troll adventure online at TrollsDL.com

Wicked Plants Update

After creating the majority of the artwork for my Wicked Plants collection, I finally submitted the copyright application. Let me tell you - that website (copyright.gov) is not for the faint of heart! Click here for the first (very unedited) look at the collection onYouTube. Plus, I Googled “Wicked Plants” and the exhibition showed up on the Visit Omaha website. So, I guess this is happening! The exhibition runs from October 4 through November 12, 2024.

inspiration everywhere
The Troll art installation in Detroit Lakes has prompted me to think about other public art around the world. Here are a few collections to get you thinking about it too!

This one is a different sort of exhibition where more than 100,000 crucifixes cover a hill in northern Lithuania. The Hill of Crosses was once bulldozed by the Soviet government and covered in trash. But the locals have since cleaned it up and continue to add tributes. (Check out this 1.5 minute video about it on YouTube.)

I was fortunate to see Kim Simonsson’s Moss People at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis in 2018. Since then, he has created this “giant” version of his “wanderers from the Nordic forests” for Lille, France.

And finally, back to Lithuania. Well placed for a good scare, this statue of a hooded ghost hauls itself up from the water. The bronze sculpture, known as “Juodasis Vaiduoklis” (“The Black Ghost”) has been terrifying children (and adults) since 2010.
