WEEKLY WONDERS: w/c 1 July 2024

Hi First name,
“Diving into creativity with giddy excitement and fearlessness!”
*ADVENTURE*
“Creativity is piercing the mundane to find the marvellous.”
Bill Moyers

Welcome to July!

What do you associate with July? Is it a month where you get out and about in the warm(er) weather, and have some adventures? It’s the start of many people’s summer holidays, so there’s a bit of a buzz around ‘what you’re doing for the summer’.

So with adventure in mind, this week I’d like you to think about how ‘adventurous’ you are in your creativity?

The definition of creativity is producing something NOVEL and useful (although I’d like to add ‘useful’ doesn’t always have to be for someone else - creativity for purely selfish reasons is useful for US, and therefore still very much valid). But back to the ‘novel’ part…

Is creativity inherently adventurous because we’re striving to produce something new, instead of repeating the same old patterns? Would that be a definition of adventure - finding something new that you enjoy?

I’d suggest creativity and adventure are very closely linked.
But the beauty of creativity is that it is personal to us: what’s one person’s adventure is another person’s normal. So we should always have faith that whenever we venture out of our norm to try something new, we’re being both creative and adventurous.

“The last adventure left on this planet is creativity because we’ve been everywhere. There’s not much left to explore. But there’s a lot of exploration left in the human imagination.”
Wim Wenders

So this week, seek out adventure in your creativity - try something new; something which excites you and perhaps gives you an adrenaline rush like ‘going on an adventure’.

Adventure isn’t only restricted to physical feats in the great outdoors. See your creativity as adventurous - try something out, test it, play with it, experiment and see where you end up. Have fun being an adventurous creative!

Here’s what creative adventures I’m going to try this week:
  • Making and decorating a cake for my daughter’s 14th birthday (to her exact requirements - yes I have been given reference images! Yikes!)
  • A creative approach to business in the form of ‘shoe anatomy’ for tomorrow’s session at 1pm (hope to see you there!) - Click here for the Zoom link 👍
  • I’ve been experimenting with both collage and embroidery on photos, so I’ll make it a point to try to go out of my comfort zone and try something different for that.
  • I have a lot of marketing to do for Wondermums and my school holiday resources - so I’m going to try and think outside the box with that.
  • And of course, it’s the Inspiration Day in Saltaire on Friday, so that will be an adventure for sure! Looking forward to seeing everyone who’s coming, and for those of you who couldn’t make it, you’ll be missed😿.

So what adventures in your creativity will you have this week? Don’t forget to share anything in the group, but most of all, have fun and don’t put any limitations on where you can go with your creative endeavours!

“You’re off to great places. Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting, so… get on your way!”
Dr Seuss

Wishing you a wonderful and adventurous July!

Loads a love,
Kate  xx

“Wonder makes us more creative and more desirous of studying the world around us. It makes us humble, less materialistic, more generous, and better community members… Wonder makes us less stressed and feel like we have more time… Wonder quite simply makes us want to be better, more tolerant people.” (Parker, 2023)
