Dear Fair Chance Community, As we approach the end of the year, I want to take a moment to reflect on our collective accomplishments and express my heartfelt gratitude for the dedication of our staff, board of directors, and advisory board. Together, we have made significant strides in 2024, to date serving 45 nonprofit organizations through our partnership and other intensive capacity-building programs and hundreds through our communities of practice and webinars. In this newsletter, we share an exciting announcement – Fair Chance received a $400,000 Health Equity Fund grant through the Greater Washington Community Foundation to support the mobilization of nonprofits and nonprofit workers through our advocacy efforts. We are also excited about our annual Butterfly Bash celebration coming up on Friday, October 25 (limited tickets still available!)! We also share details about the four incredible nonprofit organizations and leaders who recently graduated from our Praxis Partnership Program. Engaging the broader Fair Chance community is vital to our mission, and we invite diverse voices to join us in shaping our future. If you want to join this inclusive effort, please reach out. Your insights are invaluable as we work together to strengthen the nonprofit sector and the communities in our area challenged by racism, discrimination, and poverty. Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication. I hope to see you all next week at the Butterfly Bash! Yours in collaboration and partnership, Gretchen |

Fair Chance Receives $400K Health Equity Fund Grant |
|
Today the Greater Washington Community Foundation announced the award of $10 million in grants to 40 nonprofits in DC that foster economic mobility. According to the DC Department of Health, 80 percent of DC’s health outcomes are driven by social, economic, and other factors, compared to just 20 percent by clinical care. As a result, the Health Equity Fund adopts an economic mobility frame to address the root causes of health disparities in the District. Fair Chance is one of the grant awardees, receiving $400,000 in two-year funding. We were also excited to see nine Fair Chance alumni nonprofit organizations included on the list of 40 grant recipients! |

“[As leaders of small nonprofits], what we do not have, what we never have is time to think. Then Fair Chance comes along, and they will make you think. That was the greatest impact on me as a leader, carving out those moments of planning and reflection that are actually the engine behind growth. That has become a regular exercise that I do.” - Daniela Grigioni, Executive Director, After-School All-Stars |

In early October, we celebrated four organizations and their leaders, After-School All-Stars DC, Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project (A/PI DVRP), Girls on the Run DC, and Soul Trak Outdoors, for completing Fair Chance's intensive Praxis Partnership. Annually, these nonprofits are providing critical after-school programming for 500 students at 6 DC sites; offering resources and empowerment to over 240 A/PI survivors of domestic violence across the region; fostering leadership and confidence in 2,000 girls in all 8 DC wards; and connecting over 500 black and brown residents to nature through community-centered programs, with an emphasis on cultivating outdoor leaders. In the year-long Praxis Partnership, each organization's Executive Director, in collaboration with a Fair Chance Capacity Building Specialist, strengthened their leadership and organizational systems to prepare for future growth and sustainability.
