EMGWENYA CLUB OUTING

On Saturday, 29 June nine local Emgwenya-Waterval Boven children, and four adults (including two MCSA members) linked up with a Boven Crag Clean-up and Climb organised by City Rock

We worked at the Creche, which was no hardship - warm sunshine, bright blue sky, flowering aloes and lots of enthusiasm by everyone made clearing and marking trails, installing perma-draws at route chains and climbing to clean routes a day of fun in the sun.

And to end the day… a bit of bouldering and a swim in the icy pool at Tranquilitas.

Special thanks to Roc ‘n Rope for their ongoing support of the Emgwenya Mountain Club and the MCSA-Jhb for helping cover transport and lunch costs for the children.

MEET REPORT: LOSKOP ABSEIL
Image item
We set up an amazing 168-meter abseil at Loskop Dam last weekend. This starts from a bolted anchor on a solid, clean stance. After an initial 6-meter slab, the descent is completely free-hanging for another 162 meters, ending in a large pool next to a waterfall. To state the obvious, this is for experienced people only. We will go back there later in the season.

Contact Dylan or me if this is something that might interest you.

MEET REPORT: DRY TOOLING RADIOACTIVE CRAG
Image item
A chilly Sunday morning set the perfect mood for using ice axes instead of fingers on the cold rock. After a brief orientation, the top ropes were set, and we were let loose to tackle the rock face with tools in hand. Franco made it look so easy, but the rest of us found it a bit more challenging than expected. Just as you think you're getting the hang of it, a tool will pop, and you're off the wall. I have a newfound respect for anyone doing mixed climbing on lead! A big thank you to Neil for a fun, informative, and safe day.
