And I’m not just talking about sleep.

I've been reflecting on rest lately, mainly because I struggle with it. To clarify, I do get a good night's sleep—usually a solid eight hours. My challenge lies in being comfortable with stillness while awake, without an agenda or deliverable.
 
This month's newsletter is a week later than usual. That's because I allowed myself to rest mentally. I strive to be consistent with these messages, but the truth is, to best care for myself, sometimes I won't be.

Here's what's helping me practice rest:
 
Scheduling it: I live by my calendar and have realized that rest is most effective for me when it's planned and proactive. I used to think I had to earn rest, but I've learned I don't need to be deprived and depleted to deserve it. As a home organizer, I love creating space in physical rooms, and now I'm learning to do the same with my calendar.
 
Affirming it: If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see beyond organizing tips and resources, I devote my stories to inspiration. I share messages about rest, joy, and simplicity. I've saved some of my favorite posts in a highlight titled "rest" for you.
 
Reading about it: Reading helps me rest, so I've been exploring books on the topic. "Rest is Resistance" and "Pause, Rest, Be: Stillness Practices for Courage in Times of Change" are powerfully convicting. 
 
In a society where being busy is a badge of honor, we can embrace rest together.
