This week's author interview: lucy felthouse |
SFN: What made you want to publish your books in audio? |
LF: I wanted to make my books as widely available and as accessible as possible. |
SFN: What are your writing rituals or habits? |
LF: I need quiet. I'm not one of those writers who can sit in a cafe and write. Noise and outside stimulus make it impossible for me to concentrate. So I close my browser, my emails, put in earplugs to block sound. Sometimes I even close the curtains in my little office (activity outside will catch my eye and draw my attention otherwise) and put a hood up to "blinker" myself. |
SFN: What's your favorite part of the writing process? |
LF: After all these years it still amazes me that I can sit at my laptop and create something out of thin air. That stuff will come out of my head, travel through my arms and fingers, onto the keys and onto the Word document. So I think it probably has to be that - just creating a story, characters, hopefully something that readers will enjoy. |
SFN: Do you include stories from family or friends in your books? |
LF: Definitely. Nothing very personal, or painful, but if there's been a snippet of something I can use, I'll just ask if I can include it. |
SFN: Do you recall a specific book you connected with viscerally as a young reader or as an adult? |
LF: I wouldn't say a specific book, but definitely an author. I absolutely loved Enid Blyton books. They definitely fired my imagination, and were a big part of growing my love for reading, which also turned into a love for creating my own worlds and characters. |
SFN: How did you find the narrators for your most recent audiobook? What made you choose him/her/them? |
LF: I had worked with Frankie (Holland) before on previous books and just knew she would knock it out of the park. She did a fantastic job on The Dreadnoughts Series. |
