Updates from Fonkoze
Dear Fanmi ak Zanmi, Family and Friends,

We're writing to share updates on our outreach and the CLM program, specifically, how one of the latest cohorts supported by Sisters of Mercy is progressing despite challenging conditions. We’re also seeing a renewed surge in gang activity in the Artibonite region. These groups are actively attempting to seize control of the local police station.

In the US, we continue to uplift Haitian culture and raise support for Fonkoze's empowering work in Haiti. Please mark your calendars for our next events. We're also pleased to share a new video in our culinary partnership with Haitian chefs in the US, this one with award-winning Chef Jouvens Jean and Chef Jason Pierre.

CLM Ultra-poverty Program:
In February 2023, the Sisters of Mercy partnered with Fonkoze to support 200 families in Gwomòn through the CLM program, marking the fourth cohort supported by Mercy Focus on Haiti. Despite political instability, travel and fuel have become more predictable, though accessing cash remains difficult due to gang activity disrupting transportation. Progress includes increased livestock ownership and ongoing home repairs. Refresher training sessions have been conducted, and VSLA activities show high engagement with savings and loans. Continued medical follow-ups and coaching visits are planned, despite challenges like the theft of a motorcycle and budget reallocations. Overall, the program is making meaningful progress in improving the lives of participating families.
