LIVING IN NEW YORK:
NoMad
07.14.2024

Living in New York… you can spend years in the city and never know all of the ins and outs of a neighborhood. Every pocket is different, and every block has it's own personality. But if you keep those eyes open and ears to the ground, there is always something new to discover.

NoMad is not a typical destination for me, except for a pass-through or a very intentional meeting/meet-up. However, recently, I've spent more time there with a client focused on securing their forever-home in this zone.

Suffice it to say, I'm a fan. It's central, connected, and classic! Where Beaux-Arts architecture and bustling energy intersect…that's where you'll find me.

NEED TO KNOWS
The Name - The name “NoMad” is derived from the area’s location which is North and West of Madison Square Park from 25th Street to 30th Street between Sixth Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

Baseball - Apparently, the first recorded baseball game “officially” played with rules was in Madison Square Park in 1842.

Gilded Age - NoMad was THE spot during the Gilded Age near the end of the 19th century.

JUST SIGNED
THE GRAND MADISON
225 Fifth Avenue, Unit 8K

All contract signings are significant. Buyers and sellers are committing to or letting go of a property. Money changes hands. And a new chapter is unfolding. It's special.

For me, that’s the first moment where the work, effort and energy for a client has a tangible result. This one took four years of searching, viewing many units and having nuanced conversations.

I love this job. The experience is never the same; each client is unique. The process is magical: feeling your relationship deepen, seeing the evolution of your client's point of view, and observing their personal journey as they answer the question of “What is most important to me?”

The Grand Madison is an iconic Pre-War, full-service condo building that offers a blend of classic elegance and modern convenience.

Originally known as the Brunswick Hotel, this iconic New York City landmark was built in 1906 by Francis H. Kimball and Harry E. Donnell in a beautiful Renaissance-revival style.

The lantern of the Statue of Liberty was on display in Madison Square Park between 1876 and 1882 to raise money for its completion. (Any The Gilded Age fans, here?) Photo via Museum of the City of New York.

THE SITS

Found yourself in NoMad with a little time to kill? A few of my go-to's:

Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop.

  • Stumptown Coffee Roasters: At the foot of the Ace Hotel. They know how to brew.
  • The Portrait Bar: Inside Fifth Avenue Hotel (a destination in its own right). Think cozy, parlor, pub-but-refined. Big Sit feature coming very soon ;).

The Portrait Bar.

  • Café Carmellini: A visual showstopper. Take out-of-towners. It feels regal. I sat next to a Frenchman, an English fellow, and an influencer. All properly dressed.
  • A.Lounge + Bar in Nomad Hotel: Design-y and sleek. It's a good look.
  • Hillstone… Am I allowed to like that? A chain? YES I AM! A classic.
  • Eleven Madison Park: Feel like splurging and experiencing one of the best dining experiences NYC has to offer? I just finished this book where EMP serves as the backdrop for rethinking hospitality.
  • Rizzoli Book Store: Calm and iconic. You'll want to settle in and stay all day.

Essential reads at the Rizzoli Book Store.
