JULY 28, 2024 . THE WHITE SPACE LETTER #001 |
|
Grab a cuppa (this is quite possibly my longest email yet)… if you're in a rush, consider scrolling down to the click-worthy links below. New Beginnings
After what feels a hundred years I've decided it's time to launch a ‘newsletter’. And like all the ‘super-cool’ newsletters it needs a name!
Enter… ‘White Space'
And rather than spend weeks thinking ‘what exactly is White Space’?…I'm just going to let the details unfold as I go.
What I know for sure… I want this letter to inspire your creative life. Tutorials, inspiration, ideas from me and creatives I adore, bits, bobs and all the many things I love… and last but not least a white space question to consider moving forward. |
|
Why White Space? I'm so glad you asked.
If you've been around ‘my world’ for a beat or 2, you know I'm all about SPACE. aka Room to breathe. aka White space.
Photos and film…Walls, floors, ceilings… Emails, blog posts, web pages…Instagram captions, text messages. Graphics, prints… on and on I could go!
White space is required. (with a few exceptions that we'll get to moving forward.)
Plus ‘White space’ is a non-negotiable part of each day. Quiet, silence…S P A C E… to think, to imagine, to write, to think some more...
Ultimately, if you're looking to elevate your art, your space, or even your life... a little white space goes a long way.
And that's exactly what I want to share and explore in the White Space letters. ♡ A little note about White Space letters: These aren't your typical 'skim/scroll' emails. They're an invitation to slow down, savor the inspiration, and create a little calm in your busy day. Feel free to browse the links, save for later, or revisit when you need a creative boost. Think of it as your personal 'pause' button in this fast-paced internet world. |
|
Now, let's kick things off with a something practical: For the Love of White Borders.
An in-depth step-by-step tutorial (basically a mini-masterclass) on how I use Lightroom's print module to create ‘perfect, consistent’ white borders for both print and sharing online.White borders draw your eye to what matters, give your photos that extra pop, and serve up a classic look that never goes out of style. Trust me, once you start adding them, you'll be hooked. Pop over and check out MY NEW LIGHTROOM PRINT MODULE tutorial.Sidenote: This tutorial is an excellent refresher even if you're a print module pro, |
|
Ultimately White Space is an invitation to create more SPACE in your life and art.
Styling, in-camera composition, graphic design, social media posts, web design. WHITE SPACE… for the win.
white borders ‘in action’: The screenshot (below) from my website. The white border around the top right photo creates space and balance for all three photos to BE in harmony together. |

this week's white space question to consider:
How might you add a touch more 'white space' to your art or life this week? Maybe it's considering a white border on that Instagram post you've been meaning to share. Or perhaps it's imagining a cleared corner of your workspace to create a little visual calm. It could even be adding an extra line break in that email you've been working on.
Whatever comes to mind, I'd love to hear about it. If you feel inspired to act on your idea, snap a quick before and after. Then hit reply and share how a touch of 'white space' shifted things for you. Can't wait to see what you come up with!" |
