Dictated by the long school holiday, whether you’re a parent or not, summer is the time when we aim to get out and about, have ‘time off work’ and enjoy the warmer weather.
Of course, it doesn’t always pan out that way, but it seemed a good opportunity to focus our creative thinking for AUGUST on a different location each week, in anticipation that you’ll be ‘travelling’ near or far, getting out and seeing things during August.

*STAY AT HOME ADVENTURES*
For when the weather doesn’t play ball.
Make the ordinary extraordinary!
During lock-down, we had planned to go away, but obviously Covid scuppered our plans. So instead I planned 5 days of things for us to do every afternoon and created ‘Stay At Home Airlines’!
I was actually able to work in the mornings, and then share the ‘fun stuff’ with the kids in the afternoons.
So here is your prompt to do something similar if the weather has other plans to what you’d hoped to do in the sun!✨
Creative Thinking Prompt (w/c 5 August 2024)
Travel in your mind! Think about all the adventures you can have (with no restrictions of time or money), then have some!
Stay-at-Home Airlines
If you’d like to recreate your own ‘Stay-at-Home’ Airlines - here’s what we did: it involved us ‘travelling’ the world from the comfort of our own home!
Each morning my daughters received they ‘airplane tickets’ (I used Canva!) stating where we were going that day.
They also received a few links or ideas to what they could learn about in the morning, so they were ready for the trip! For example: some basic words if the language wasn’t English; an idea of the food we’ll enjoy eating, and something which was characteristic of that country - maybe a traditional dance, or a traditional craft that they make, or a famous person from that country, or music style etc etc.
We then made and ate the food of that country, and experienced something of what it would be like to travel there.
We ‘visited’ Japan, Mexico, India, Italy and the USA - all in a week!
Here’s some photos from our week:
Top row: flight tickets, passports and info on the country.
Middle row: Making sushi, ‘henna’ tattoos (obviously just pen), and Indian pattern design.
Bottom row: Mexican dancing, curry, and making Mexican worry dolls.

While travel is something most of us love to do, especially this time of year, remember that we can also travel far in our minds, while being somewhere familiar and ‘everyday’.
And such is the beauty of wonder!
P.S. If you fancy a post-summer trip to central Leeds, then don't forget to get booked on to our next Inspiration Day on 27 September.

“Wonder makes us more creative and more desirous of studying the world around us. It makes us humble, less materialistic, more generous, and better community members… Wonder makes us less stressed and feel like we have more time… Wonder quite simply makes us want to be better, more tolerant people.”(Parker, 2023)
