sam's digest — a bi-monthly newsletter of my 3 favorite architectural gems on the market in los angeles, + raw life updates. issue 21. 7/19/24.

//    the mood & vibes this week

— hi, friends :) writing this to you from my latest listing: an ethereal, historic craftsman in los angeles.
— we are getting to the finish line of escrow with some incredible buyers, who are wildly in love with the house. everything is going very smoothly and everyone's jazzed. today was the final walkthrough before keys next week.
— besides that, it's been a bit of a slow 2 weeks for our team (i say that even though i submitted an offer an hour ago, lol) but we have a flush of cool houses coming up. yeowza you're not ready. architecturals galore.
— however, the break has been nice. i feel like i've taken a beat to breathe and just feel the rhythms of summer. and last weekend, i even had my first proper mountain trip of the season!
— my friend and i packed up the prius and booked it to crestline .. a little mountain town just under 2 hours from LA. and wow, was it needed.
— highlights included: 1) stand-up paddleboarding on the lake, tree-laden mountains on all sides, falling into cold water with glee, my friend even doing a handstand (!!!) on hers because she's an actual yogi. 2) just baking on the beach, with watermelon, bevvies, 88 degrees and no phones in sight. 3) that feeling when it's early evening after you've been swimming all day, when the light gets golden and you're feeling all warm and sleepy … and then scarfing down burritos that have no business being the size of my head. 4) waking up underneath the pines and doing it all over again.
— i think there's just something about the mountains in the summertime that gets me real good. and i wonder if you feel the same. it felt so needed & necessary to be in nature at that very moment of seasonal zenith, & i hope you get some, too.
— although i will say one thing. daaammmnn is it wild being a gay person in a remote setting. seeing the kind of conservative rhetoric i thought was reserved for the midwest was pretty alarming, especially as someone who is pretty visibly queer. so, that undercurrent was definitely there the entire time, if i'm being honest. but on the whole it was indeed a wonderful trip.
— in terms of other life stuff … continuing to train for the marathon. continuing to tend to all my houseplants at my topanga tiny house. continuing to ponder about exceptionally cool houses. visiting my dad this weekend in san diego & camping again next weekend in northern california. lots shakin' lately!
— wonder what you're feeling this week. maybe respond and tell me.
— talk to you soon, and sending love.

xx,
sam
