A Note from Julie, the Greenhouse Curator: |
|
This week, my husband asked me what I'd like to do for my upcoming birthday. I answered, āI want to see some plants."
And, boy, did I get to see some plants yesterday afternoon when he took me to the Caine Conservatory on the campus of High Point University. We had the whole place to ourselves, and I absolutely loved it! I could've stayed there all day.
I mean, look at that living wall! |
|
The next time I go, I might bring my iPad so I can sit on that bench and proofread surrounded by all the planty goodness. š |

If youāve ever asked your clients for a testimonial, you know that the asking process is a bit, well, awkward. So, as awkward as it might be, here I am asking! š If youāve been enjoying the tips, strategies, and plant photos in The Leaflet, Iād be thrilled if you could take a moment to tell me your thoughts about the newsletter. Your feedback means so much to me and helps others discover the benefits of The Leaflet. Just a few sentences about what you enjoy most would be fantastic, and Iād like to use the responses to let others know about the newsletter. You can reply directly to this email with your testimonial about The Leaflet. Thanks so much! |

Have you visited the TPG blog? |
|
It's been a while since I mentioned the TPG blog, The Watering Can. You'll find several posts for proofreaders, editors, and word enthusiasts about mindset, productivity, and tools. Most of the posts include plant analogies, too. No surprise there! Here's a link. |

Favorite LinkedIn Posts This Week: |
|
Here are three posts I enjoyed reading on LinkedIn this week (shared with permission): - Take a breathwork walk: I'm trying to be more conscious of my breathing, and I love Polly's suggestion to focus on breathing while taking a morning walk. Great idea! š”
- What makes a great business? Amanda's posts are always helpful, and I enjoyed this one about the essential parts of a business. She compares the three elements to pieces of a pie. So good!ļø ļøš„§
- Capital vs. Capitol: If you aren't following Sara Rosinsky on LinkedIn and Instagram, you're missing out. She shares helpful tips about tricky word pairs, and her writing style is hilarious. In this post, she helps us remember the difference between ācapitalā and ācapitol.ā By the way, I read a reminder this week that the phrase ācapitol buildingā is redundant because a capitol is a building. š§
|
|
This phrase refers to something that is an important and necessary part of something else.
This error occurs because the word āandā can sound like āinā when said quickly. š” |

This Week's Featured Proofreader or Editor: |
|
The Proofreader Greenhouse asked: - What type of content do you proofread or edit?
I proofread and copyedit fiction, nonfiction, blog posts, websites, and marketing content, such as campaign emails, ads, and social media posts. - Did you complete training for proofreading or editing?
I took the Becoming a Proofreader course through Knowadays. Despite the name, it provided training in proofreading and copy editing. - What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing work?
My favorite thing is working in a field that I love. Words truly fascinate me. They always have. Since Iām also an author, I know how much energy and heart goes into a written piece. But now I can help other writers achieve the final outcome theyāve been hoping for. Even when it comes to less creative pieces, like websites, I really enjoy helping small businesses move forward and seeing the pride on the ownersā faces when they see their hard work polished to the best it can be. - What causes you the most frustration in your work?
I think the most frustrating thing for any freelancer is marketing. When I started this business a little over a year ago, I wanted to dive straight into editing, but thereās a lot more work backstage than I thought there would be. Creating marketing content can be difficult, but keeping it coming week after week is especially challenging. - What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors?
Even if you work by yourself, create an editing support system you can go to when youāre in doubt. There are editing groups online you can join where other professional editors are more than happy to help each other out.

My neon pothos loves the morning sun that shines through my living room window. Can you spot the water droplets caused by guttation? ļøš± |
