Picture this…you have a brilliant idea for a business that could change the lives of you and your family. You can see the potential, the success, and the impact you could make on society. But as soon as you start to think about all the steps involved – creating a business plan, securing funding, marketing, and a million other things – it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. The fear of failure creeps in, and suddenly, your dream seems impossible.
But what if you took a different approach?
What if, instead of focusing on the entire journey from beginning to end, you just focused on the very first step. Maybe it’s researching your target market, or just writing the first page of your business plan. Whatever the first step is, my point is that each small action builds momentum, and before you know it, you’re making progress.
It’s why I always stress racking up those small wins. In time, they turn into huge successes.
That being said, I haven’t acknowledged the elephant in the room yet.
I’m referring to whatever that thing is that’s holding you back from starting. It doesn’t have to be a new business. It could be dropping weight, training for a half-marathon, or going back for that college degree that is only a few credits away. Whatever the goal is, we all have to deal with the fear of failure and low self-esteem, but I’ll touch more on that in a minute.
If you’re feeling like you’re just not ready yet, it’s alright, the truth is that no one ever feels completely ready. I can’t tell you how many times I competed in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments with nagging injuries and a million thoughts weighing on my mind, but I stepped on the mat anyway.
Why? Because the universe rewards action, not hesitation.
But I also understand that starting a big project or task can be daunting. The fear of the unknown, the potential for failure, and the sheer scale of the task can make ambitious dreams seem impossible.
So, it got me thinking, what causes the fear of starting, and how can we overcome it?
