before and after

Our largest project to date has been our beach house renovation in Duck, NC. It was quite the challenge to manage a 5-month reno, over 3 hours away, that involved several different contractors and multiple skilled tradespeople…most of whom were on beach time!

As with any reno, we had some unexpected hurdles, plenty of twists and turns and quite a few surprises - but in the end, we had some great people helping get us to the finish line.

With the beach house reno, we knew we wouldn't be adding square footage or moving any walls so the primary goal was to visually open up the space to feel light and bright and airy…and to appear bigger.

THE LIVING ROOM
Design Goal: To open up the space visually and create a cozy place to lounge.

THE KITCHEN
Design Goal: To create a beautiful, functional kitchen to accommodate up to 10 people.

THE HALLWAY
Design Goal: To create an easy, natural flow and add visual interest.

THE BEDROOM
Design Goal: To create a light and airy space with two beds vs just one.

There are come strategies you can try in your home to visually expand the perceived size of your room - whether that's your living space, a home office, a bedroom or a bathroom, or even a hallway.

Creating a light and open room isn't just about design aesthetics - it also contributes to a relaxing atmosphere that functions well and feels good.

life lately

July was a busy month personally and professionally as we finished up our Forest Hill short-term rental (STR) project (more to come on STR design next month), my youngest finished summer swim team, my middle finished coaching the team and my oldest and I took a really fun mug class at Hand/Thrown in RVA - highly recommend for a fun night out!

product sourcing

Sourcing and Curating are a critical part of any design project. Sourcing interior design pieces for clients is about creating personalized and meaningful spaces that not only look beautiful but also enhance the client's everyday life. It requires a blend of creativity, attention to detail and the client's unique needs.

As we spend time finding pieces for our projects, we want to share some of those with you – to save you time and effort and hopefully some money! These are curated into different groupings (by subject or brand) and most are budget-friendly finds to layer in your own home.

fan favorites

These are some of our favorite home & design finds that are sometimes super random - but always a fan favorite.

My personal favorite find recently - PURA! I can manage this quickly and easily (easily being the key word) from my phone and control the intensity of the fragrance and the length of time it's on. Beach Glow is a personal favorite for a fresh, light citrus-y smell. In my opinion, this is a game-changer especially for short-term rentals to keep the house smelling fresh.
