A Note from Julie, the Greenhouse Curator: |

If I'm honest, it's been a stressful week. If you follow TPG on Instagram, you might've seen my stories about Harley's freak accident this past Sunday. He had to have emergency surgery to fix a severed artery in his leg. He's feeling much better now, but he has to wear a cone for six more days. I'll be so glad when we can take that off, have his sutures removed, and let him get back to his playful self. |

As my friend Roberta reminded me this week, times like this make me thankful my proofreading business allows me to work from home where I can keep a close eye on Harley. That's a great way to think about it! |

Here are three posts I enjoyed reading on LinkedIn this week (shared with permission): - How to make your brand logo memorable: I found Anna's post about brand logos fascinating! She provides tips for creating a memorable logo. And wait until you see the images she shares of popular brand logos drawn from memory. 😲
- What to do if your LinkedIn connection requests are ignored: If part of your marketing strategy is connecting with prospective clients on LinkedIn, you'll enjoy this post. Ilise is a wealth of knowledge I've discovered only recently. 🧠
- Boost your writing skills with regular editing: I loved Jenny's reminder that working regularly with an editor can improve an organization's writing over time. I noticed this in the nonprofit association where I worked before becoming a full-time proofreader. The more documents I edited, the better the organization's initial writing became. The writers learned how to avoid common mistakes and punctuate correctly. Nice! ✨
By the way, if you're on LinkedIn, I'd love to connect! |

The phrase "run afoul of" means to get into trouble or conflict with someone or something, usually by breaking rules or expectations. 💡 |

The Proofreader Greenhouse asked: - What type of content do you proofread or edit?
I edit for authors of fiction. - Did you complete training for proofreading or editing?
I've completed the Proofread Anywhere Course: General Proofreading Theory and Practice, as well as two Edit Republic courses: High-Level Proofreading Pro and The Art of Line Editing. I am also the assistant copyeditor and proofreader with Thewordverve indie publisher. - What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing work?
My cherished clients, particularly a gentleman who expressed surprise and gratitude for having "finally found an editor who listens and lets his writing remain uniquely his." I am devoted to providing support while respecting the individuality of each client's work. - What causes you the most frustration in your work?
Potential clients who are just "shopping around" for the best price. I understand that cost can be an issue and when I can't just "give them a number," I never hear back from them. - What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors?
Resist the allure of a “work whenever you wish” mentality. Maintaining a work routine is crucial to delivering your best to clients. Life may be unpredictable, but consistent presence is key to a thriving business. That said, I find so much joy in my work that it hardly feels like work at all!

A newcomer to my collection, this frost peperomia is just so cute! He likes the bright, indirect light that shines in my living room bookcase. ️🌱 |
