Hello First name

July was the month I completed my 39th rotation around the sun. To celebrate turning 40, the introvert in me decided on a quiet trip to Hobart with my hubby. We spent the weekend exploring the markets, visiting a tiny jazz club bar, and taking the ferry to Mona to visit its curious…(iykyk)…exhibits.

The serene landscape of Tasmania also sparked reflection on running my design studio for the last +7 years.

So here are the 3 lessons I have learned when it comes to running a conscious business:

🚞 Following your intuition = redefining your comfort zone
Intuition isn't just about taking time for long baths and naps. It can look different depending on what season of business you are in.

Sometimes your intuition will beckon you to gently play along the edges of your comfort zone. Other times it will ask you to dive in and push for energetic momentum to move forwards. Look out for the times when your intuition nudges you to expand your comfort zone

🪙 Investing in business = an investment in energy
When we hear “investing in our businesses”, we often think of money. However, I’ve learned that investing in my business actually means choosing where my energy and focus need to flow

This realisation has come from all the courses, workshops, memberships, and coaches I have invested in.

The true result from these investments is determined by where I channel my energy, not necessarily the amount I spend. And the areas that receive this energy will likely see the most growth.

🔨 The simplest tool for the job = a job done!
Simplicity cultivates efficiency. I switched from using Notion back to Apple Notes for writing so I can enter my flow state faster without distractions.

In the past, I would happily procrastinate by taking time to “prepare my workspace” instead of doing the task at hand. I’m finding deep joy in tackling the harder tasks and using the simplest tools has made the experience more mindful.

What’s one key lesson you have learned this year that has shifted how you do business? Hit reply to let me know!

Rituals, creative explorations and nerdy stuff that have filled my cup and inspired me this month
✍🏽 Listen: Sometimes you find a quirky, little space on the internet that takes you back to the dial up days. This is one of those experiences and it evokes a charming slice of nostalgia that made me smile.

📽️ Watch: This movie is delicate and beautiful. Writer and director Celine Song explores the Korean Buddhist philosophy of In-Yun and how it manifests through the themes of destiny, identity, love, longing and missed connections.

💭 Think: This video made me do a double take and ponder the influence, ethics and capabilities of deepfake technology. A fascinating reimagining of President Nixon’s contingency speech if the Apollo 11 mission had gone wrong.

🍚 Enjoy: I used this recipe for a deeply nourishing weekday dinner. The best thing about making a batch of congee is that it acts as a great base for all the exciting topping combos to keep things interesting!

👟 Try: I have been attempting this challenge by Penny Locaso and my goodness, what an eye opening experiment into observing all the micro actions that sit on the other side of our comfort zones.

Musings on design, packaging and branding
Today's tip is for product-based biz owners; a game-changing strategy for your product's packaging called Packaging Architecture.

Packaging Architecture is the system that determines the degree of variation we allow in your packaging layout across products within a brand. Here are the three levels of Packaging Architecture:
Image item
Rigid: The most 'uniform' approach. Only the product colour changes, everything else stays the same. The Rigid model is typically best for smaller brands with a smaller budget!

Hybrid: Same typographic and illustration layout, but with a unique product colour and a custom illustration. This is typically a good balance between a high level of product customisation versus consistency.

Bespoke: If each product needs to be treated like a unique snowflake, then all visual elements on your packaging (except for your logo) can be different for each product. This option is complex but delivers strong product navigation and conveys a deeper product story and experience.

Your choice depends on your brand strategy, budget, and how different each product experience needs to be. Which one feels right for your brand?
