Hi First name / friend,

Many of us are feeling the summer slump—school is starting back up soon but not that soon, it's hot and humid (anyone else's AC go out this week??), Q4 prep is looming, and we're tired!

It's been an especially task-heavy week for me between website editing, calendar organizing, writing emails, gathering submissions for several projects (more on that next week!)…it feels like a lot!

But on Monday I decided to put aside my to-do list and give myself half an hour during my work day to follow a fun idea, and it was so refreshing. I sometimes forget how important play is to creative work! It can feel like a waste of time when there are so many pressing tasks, but doing something just for fun can be exactly what's needed to reenergize and refocus our work.

When's the last time you designed something just for fun? Not because it was on your to-do list or because you had to, but just because you felt like it? This week, be on the lookout for a fun idea to come your way and give yourself permission to follow it when it does—it could be the most helpful thing you do all week!

I started writing out all of my acrylic tips and it just got to be too long so I put it into the PDF above! If I had to summarize my advice in three words it would be: shape. builder. tool. :)

One of the great things about vector designing is that there's often so many different ways you can take to arrive at the same result. If your acrylic design process is different than mine, I'd love to hear about it!

I’ve been especially thankful for technology this week, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite programs that I use daily to help with my workflow:
  • Google Sheets: Nothing too fancy here, but I use Sheets more than anything else right now (and love that it's free!). I'm organizing collaboration submissions, categorizing social media posts, and keeping track of file collection ideas.
  • Flodesk: If you're thinking about starting your email list, Flodesk is by far the most affordable option once you get growing. Most other platforms charge hundreds of dollars per month once you reach certain numbers of subscribers, but Flodesk's price stays the same. Plus, it's pretty. (click here for 50% off!)
  • Instagram voice messaging: I've said this before and I'll say it again—voice messages are the most effective way I've found to follow up with customers and collaborators. It feels way more personal than email, and you don't have to look presentable while doing it. Win-win. I must have sent at least 100 messages this week!
  • Airtable: I didn't realize there was a free version until just recently, and I really like how much easier it is to view all submissions compared to Google Forms. Highly recommend it!
Do you have a list of tech favorites you use regularly? I'd love to hear!
