Sweetie Pi was my first feline love. Born in a Spanish grocery store in the Bronx near Yankee Stadium, her daddy was a cat from a deli a few doors down. She lay in her mom's arms while the other kitties were lounging around her. I took her home when she was weaned, and I knew how smart she was because of the amazing things she did. She became my teacher, as I mentioned in my book, All Nature Speaks.
There were several interesting moments that led me to understand how we all have natural translators inside us, just like all living things. Sweetie didn’t speak my language directly, but she had a way of communicating that my body and mind could translate into something I could understand. Would you like to know how to do this? If you do, shout it to the world! I believe this is the root of eliminating any form of prejudice. When we understand that all life is interconnected, not just through our thoughts but through the reality we live in, we can help change our troubled and broken world.
Think of it like tuning into a universal radio station. If you don’t already send messages to trees, plants, birds, neighbors’ pets, and your own furry, feathered, finned, funny friends, start now. When you see a dog coming your way, send a thought like, “How old are you?” If a number pops into your head, hold onto it. Ask the human how old the dog is, or say, “Is your dog four?” or whatever number you felt. If the number isn't close, it might mean you're nervous or think it’s impossible to know. It takes practice to trust yourself with this wireless information we download. It’s an emotional journey of freeing up the highways in your universal mind, the network shared by all.
