Dear Kochi Locavores, It doesn’t feel like it has been a fortnight already since the two warm days I spent with you all in your beautiful, sun-dappled city. I am (very sparingly) going through the banana chips I picked up on my way out so that the memory of our food-filled weekend is alive in my rainy apartment on the outskirts of Goa. For all of us at The Locavore, there is really nothing more satisfying than a table laden with food, and the conversations that accompany it. |

Our events with the Millet Revival Project are a wonderful opportunity to bring the tastes, textures, and versatility of millets to audiences like you; we curate them with a lot of care. Our Mingle with Millets Workshop in Kochi was one of the best we have hosted so far, in no small part because of your enthusiasm! All photos by Team Locavore. |

I know we promised you the recipes we demonstrated at our cooking workshop, so without further ado, here they are: |

This colourful, light salad featured foxtail, kodo, proso, and little millet. |
Little Millet Paal Puttu by Supriya A |
Cooked with carrots and grated coconut, the Little Millet Paal Puttu was served with a delicious Kadala curry and chutney. |
Little Millet Mocha Magic Pudding by Chef Tsarina Abrao Vacha |
This little millet and jowar pudding was a gooey, coffee-flavoured treat topped with crunchy caramelised jowar corn. |

We would love for you to try these, and tell us how they turned out! And if you do, please tag us @thelocavore.in so we can feature them on our Instagram page. And for all of you wonderful cooks who brought millet dishes to our potluck at the Cochin Yacht Club, please send in your recipes so we can continue to build our ever-growing recipes section on the Millet Revival Project page. And while you’re there, do try some of the recipes we have developed and collected so far, and continue your millet journey with us! If you are interested in helping us create more of these, we are currently looking for more hands to join our Millet Cooking Lab, which develops innovative as well as traditional millet recipes from across India. Learn more about the open positions here. |
We love potlucks, and Kochi sure delivered when it came to finger-licking-good millet dishes! |
One of the reasons we are able to bring events like these to you is because we are constantly trying to learn how to make each one better than the last. And we can’t do that without your feedback. So, as you head into a weekend of cooking, we’d love it if you could share your thoughts on our Mingle with Millets event (20 July) and Millet Mixer event (21 July) via the forms below. |
I can’t wait to meet again, and eat together. Until then, I’ll dream about pickled tendli and jewels of pomegranate on my millet salad, and maybe a slice of bacon and ragi cake too. |
