🎵“Salt airrrrrr, and the rust on your doooor….”🎵

Anyone else? Or just us? If you know, you know.

Anyway… happy August! I love that I’m starting to see my friends and family posting their kids with their little back-to-school signs. Even though I haven’t been a student for a few years, the transition into August still feels like the ending of something and the beginning of another. My plants are withering, my AC can’t keep up, and I can’t resist the urge to buy a bunch of school office supplies. It feels like Summer is ending for me, even though nothing in my life is changing and the actual end of Summer is quite far off.

For many of us, August sparked a new season every year of our lives well into our 20s. (Do you remember much before Pre-K? I sure don’t.) For those with children of school age, you get to experience Augusts from an entirely new perspective. How exciting!

But for the people who are outside of the semester cycle, I think it’s fun to lean into the idea that we can keep making this month about finding new rhythms. I can’t lie and say I’m not thankful that I’m past the point of being flooded with a new slew of professors and textbooks, but something about the idea of allowing August to still be a month of beginnings to me brings comfort in this crazy world.

For me, it’s as simple as setting a goal to walk my dog every morning after breakfast. A new rhythm to bring a little bit of positive change to my small thread of the fabric.

All the best,
Ivy
