Hey First name / friend_
We’re just 60 days away from my art show,
Hands of Trinidad, and I've got some updates.
🚗 Car is Alive: Car started on the first try!
🎨 Studio Secured: Moved into my studio and set up shop.
🗓️ Monthly Meeting: Time to plan projects and content for August.
📸 Portraits in Progress: Took my 1st portrait, since returning to Trinidad, with local metal worker and retired chef, Amy Wroblewski.
how am I managing all this?
Well, obviously I use the habit tracker (shameless plug 🔌). If can I stay grounded in my daily practice – I can stay in flow.
BUT the secret is a bit of corporate discipline—yes, I said it! As much as I rebel against the 9-to-5 grind, I know that being an artist means also being an entrepreneur.
You have to be the Founder, the CEO, the Manager, and the Employee. It’s a one-woman-show and I wrote the script, play all the roles and deliver all the lines. 24/7. 🎭
Using Notion is the ONLY thing that can help me know which hat to wear and when to wear it---and right now, I'm the manager.
This is how I'm planning the next month of projects to hit my goal of a solo exhibit by Q4:
- Phase 1 (Plan): Follicular phase – Plan and Strategize.
- Phase 2 (Execute): Ovulation – Execute and Focus.
- Phase 3 (Rollout): Luteal phase – Roll-out and Refine.
- Phase 4 (Review): Menstrual phase – Rest and Review.
Using this cycle-based approach connects the corporate business model with my natural rhythms, but it is also simply easier to follow.
Many of us have decades of school and/or work experience that dictated our schedules, but as soon as we start working for ourselves, we think that 'freedom' looks like breaking free from a schedule. False.
Your flow state is begging for a consistent rhythm. You need to find the beat in order to dance, but sadly most people can't hear the beat of their own drum.
quick favor: If you enjoyed this little catch up or know someone who might, please share it. I want to find my people.
And if you’ve got a minute, I’d love to hear from you! Just hit reply and let me know how you’re staying disciplined as an creator.
