A lot can happen in just one week.
In case you missed it, one of our businesses, The Creekside Scoop, sustained extensive water damage last Monday night in a wicked storm that came through Cross Plains. Here's the scoop: the roof of the building (which we also own) was damaged in a storm just over a month ago and required a full replacement which was scheduled to start…wait for it…Tuesday. 🤦♀️ Monday night's storm ripped the damaged roof almost completely off and allowed it to rain inside the Scoop. Long story short, the walls, ceiling, cabinets, countertops and floors are completely torn out, drying and waiting for replacement. The Scoop is closed for … a while. We don't know how long but possibly for the season. 😞 In addition my office sustained some damage, (my beautiful big girl couch has two huge water spots…if you know a leather cleaner please let me know) and has also become the staging ground for inventory, supplies and furniture so I am displaced for the time-being.
But here's why I still love Monday:
Insurance. I don't cheap out here. My dad once told me that insurance is not there to pay for the thing you need replacing or fixing (including your health), it's to protect your assets. That has always stuck with me so I pay premium premiums and use local companies so when shit like this happens I can talk to someone I know.
I pay for peace of mind. And I got what I paid for.
The walls, ceiling, floors, furniture and inventory can and will be fixed and replaced. The staff will be paid. The bills are covered. No one got hurt. #winning
Murals. The murals did not get damaged. 😅
Coffeeshop. I don't mean to call The Creekside Scoop a step-child but had Crossroads gone down for a couple of months it would be bad. We serve over 350 customers a day and host a number of work-from-wherever people; it would have been a bigger disruption than what we are experiencing now. (Although we have not been on the receiving end of a 2 year old promised ice cream only to be disappointed at a closed ice cream shop yet 😬)
We're not saving babies. This is my favorite saying when things get intense around the shops. We serve ice cream and coffee and I coach clients. We are not saving babies (although, Kris, one of our beautiful baristas does, in fact, save babies for a living). If shit hits the fan we can just shut the doors. And sometimes we do.
Do I love that this happened? No.
Is there a lesson in here somewhere? I'm sure of it.
Will this make us better business owners and ultimately better humans? Yes, I think so.

When stuff like this happens, and it has before and will again, it reminds me to look for all the good.
And holy shit did the Universe deliver to me some good last week:
🎙️ Podcast interview on Monday with Shawn Carlin…so good. So, so good.
🎧 Podcast interview about homeschooling with my girls Erin and Kensey. 💕
👩💼 Coaching session with a client that's just about to level up in a big way. 🛋️
💇♀️ Haircut with my girl Marissa where we decided I'm not coloring anymore. We're embracing gray and age. 🤍

🌴 Started putting together an idea for Mastermind Quarterly retreat getaways
👦 👧 🐐 As a family we fenced in the goats…which they have already broken out of 3x.
All of these things remind me that I have done a pretty darn good job of designing my own lifestyle. It's taken some time and energy but the fruits of this labor have never been so sweet.
