Working on a Novel?

Hi First name / friend,

We have some exciting news that we want to share exclusively with our community before offering this opportunity to the public.  We have partnered with Molly's Bookstore and The Literature Department at the Philadelphia Free Library to curate the fall series of Novels in Progress - we're reaching out to see if you'd like the opportunity to be featured!

What is Novels in Progress?

It can be a long, quiet road between the room where a novel is imagined and written, and the light of day. It can take years to get a decent draft. Publication takes on holy grail status as the lonesome writer wonders if anyone will ever read what they’ve written. Sometimes we just crave conversation. We want to hear about what other people are working on, and get reactions from people who like to read fiction, and connect with other novelists.

Novels in Progress is a salon-style reading and conversation featuring the work of writers in the midst of a long project. Each participant will have the opportunity to stretch out and present their work to an audience of readers who are interested in the process, with time to introduce their project, read an excerpt and entertain a Q&A/discussion afterwards.

Held one Saturday a month in October, November, and December, this event is free and open to the public, with donations welcome to support the work of the team behind it, and to supply refreshments to attendees.

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for writers with… novels in progress! Requirements for consideration are:
  • Your manuscript must be well-established, somewhere between one-third and two-thirds complete with a viable path to The End.
  • The expected length of your finished project should be at least 200 pages at completion.
  • You must be available to participate in person at The Free Library of Philadelphia (Parkway Central Branch) for one of the following dates: October 5 at 2PM, November 2 at 2PM, or December 7 at 2PM.
Submissions close August 30th at 11:59PM. If you're interested, apply below, or share the link with a friend who's been itching to share their project! (Please do not share the link widely, we are a small team curating this event and want to keep the pool small until we can expand!)

If you have any questions or need clarity on whether you should submit, reply here and we'll do our best to respond quickly!

Warmly,
Taylor Townes and Julian Shendelman
