Scott Mathieson, Business Development Manager
We are thrilled to introduce you to Scott Mathieson, our dedicated Business Development Manager. Scott's, Scottish roots are as strong as his work ethic, and his approach to business development is as robust as the highlands themselves. Not only does he have a wealth of experience in the polythene industry, he’s also a talented musician with a passion for performing with his band.
We met with Scott to learn more about his interests and the changes he's noticed within the polythene industry…
You've worked in the polythene industry for years now. What got you into this field and what do you find most rewarding about your role as a Business Development Manager?
I started working in the packaging industry as an Internal Sales Contact in 2007. It was the first job I was offered when I moved to Norwich from Cambridge. From there I was promoted to a Field Sales Role within the first 6 months and enjoyed 6 successful years there. It felt like a natural progression to move into the manufacturing side of the industry and that's where I have been working ever since. It’s great to be able to help our customers find competitive and innovative ways to solve their packaging needs.
With your experience in the industry, what changes or trends have you noticed over the years, and how have they impacted your approach to business development?
There has been much more of a focus on the environmental impact of packaging. Higher quality and innovative raw materials has enabled us to offer our customers more sustainable packaging options.
Outside of work, you're a keen musician and part of a band. How did you get started with music, and what role does it play in your life?
From an early age I was always interested in music. I started playing the pots and pans until my parents gave in and got me a drum kit for Christmas. I also play the bass, acoustic guitar and sing (multi-instrumentalist)
What's something about you that the team might not know?
The less they know the better!
And finally, if you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring 3 albums with you, which ones would you choose and why?
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
I taught myself to play the guitar and bass by studying the tablature of the two albums above in my early teenage years before YouTube
Maybe also Jeff Buckley as he has a great voice.
Thanks Scott! Looking for a quote, product information or a discussion on how to play the guitar? Get in touch with Scott below!
