Back to It
School, Routines and Autumn

Whatever our age, I think we all get that “back to school” feeling when the calendar turns to September. The leisurely pace of Summer gets set aside as the days become shorter. Things just feel more serious. Less loose. Time to transition.

I feel the need to organize as if I'm starting a new school year. Change out my closet. Schedule appointments. Get things done. Incorporate fall decor.

My youngest son will be heading back to college next week and I'm excited for him to explore new topics in new classes with new teachers. Thinking like a student…what would you want to get better at or learn this fall?

I'm going to try and look at this month as a new beginning. A chance to script my own syllabus. Study something new. Read some good books. Take some “field trips”. And,  treat myself to a new outfit for the “first day of school”…just like when we were kids.

One of my favorite ways to welcome Fall is to place little pumpkins above my front door

Crimson Tide

The tide has begun to turn in the garden. A wave of crimson has overtaken the hydrangeas. Leaves are beginning to yellow on the viburnum. The feel of Fall is in the air.

The tulip bulbs have been ordered and there will be a new tulip debuting in the back garden. She'll still be pink, but she has some new characteristics that I think will be really beautiful. More on that when the bulbs arrive and we begin to plant!
