Dear First name / creative,
It is the first days of October, which to me marks that strange time when summer feels like it’s over and it’s time for sweater weather… but the last heat waves here in Texas pull me back into shorts, pumpkin latte in hand! It can be a time when a military family might start to feel at home in their next post, finally unpacking boxes and finding friends. Perhaps October is also a time when a writer might be feeling a renewed longing to pick up their pen again.
If you are feeling that urge to create, how about a haiku? The structure of the syllables: 5, 7, 5, can add just the right amount of structure to exercising our generative muscles. Haikus often (but not always) relate to capturing the outdoors as well. I see that as an opportunity to try a new trail, bringing a little pad + pen with us, and we can see what we discover there.
Here is some inspiration to get you started:
walking together
two faces on the pond
the moon and I
roots are regrowing
ones I thought, for years, were lost
new chances at life
And my own daring attempt:
Sunday evening stroll
fresh wild forest welcomes us
Stay awhile and breathe
