Listen. This is some of the best writing on television right now. If you haven't gotten into Industry yet, now's your time to binge.
Our girl is BACK. Not a line of coke in sight. $200M in the bag. I'm not sure how long Icarus has as she's girlboss-ing too close to the sun but let's savour this episode. Putting her in a black turtleneck was nasty work, giving us every indication of how this is going to end. 😂 Personally, I couldn't care less for the Rishi storyline they teased for this Sunday. More Harper, Eric, and Yasmin, please.🧎🏾♀️
Awards season better be kind to Ken Leung and Myha'la. 🙇🏾♀️
Horticulture nerds—this one's for you. I loved this profile of Carlos Magdalena, a research horticulturalist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in London who first started his career as an assistant propagator at the gardens, nearly twenty years ago. Today, his primary responsibility is tending to the garden's tropical plants and he is known as the plant messiah, having rescued several plant species from the brink of extinction.
“Plants don’t speak. Plants don’t cry. Plants don’t bleed,” he said. “So I’ve decided to speak for them.”
The first plant Magdalena saved from extinction was the café marron, or Ramosmania rodriguesi, a tree endemic to the island of Rodrigues which has distinctive white, star-shaped flowers. It was presumed there was no living specimen seen since 1877— until a young schoolboy came across the flower nearly 45 years ago. Cuttings of the plant were sent to Kew Gardens where folks struggled to produce a plant with seeds.
Magdalena spent five months intensely studying the plant and after 200 attempts at pollination, he succeeded in coaxing forth seeds, around 20 of which were sent to Mauritius, where pretty flowers are in bloom once again.
Speaking at Tonga, Guterres issued a climate SOS, calling on countries to “Save Our Seas” as he warned of a crisis of an unimaginable scale caused by greenhouse gases and rising sea levels. 🌊

While the law doesn't strictly prohibit employers from calling or messaging their workers after hours, it does protect employees who “refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact or attempted contact outside their working hours” 👩🏾💻
Apparently, Russia and Israel both use Telegram for military comms, so makes you wonder if the arrest is truly around organized crime or addressing national security leaks with the app.
I'm surprised I haven't shared any tracks by Elmiene in our past newsletters but Light Work just popped up on a new playlist and I had to share! His voice and vibe is reminiscent of our 90s R&B & Soul faves.
