The Craziness of Spring

Welcome First name / fellow lawn addict to the another instalment of “The Fulcrum”.
Spring is a whirlwind for turf managers and home lawn addicts. As temperatures fluctuate, dormant grass awakens, weeds sprout, and pests emerge. It's a balancing act between encouraging growth and preventing damage. Overseeding, fertilisation, and aeration are essential for a healthy lawn. But the battle against grubs, bugs, and weeds is relentless. The unpredictable weather adds to the chaos, the wind, sudden down pours, heat and the last few frosts for the year testing even the most experienced.

Watering during late winter and early spring is very important for several reasons. First, it helps to rehydrate the soil after winter which are often surprisingly dry, preparing it for the upcoming growing season. Second, it encourages root growth, which is essential for plants to absorb nutrients and water efficiently.  Also thirdly, temperatures in spring are very dynamic with warmer days yet, many nights are still very cold.  Dry soil temperature fluctuates a lot this will slow the process down of the lawn coming from dormancy.  Ensuring you have plenty of soil moisture around the root zone 100-150mm deep increases the thermal mass of the soil essentially stabilising the soil temperature over the 24 hr period.  This allows the plant to prepare for growth earlier speeding up the process of recovery, the flow on with this is a better lawn sooner and renovation maybe brought forward. Start your soil amendment applications early if you suspect dry soil.

This doesn't mean you can jump the gun with scarifying, we still don't want you to scarify a dormant, slow growing or sick lawn.  Aeration is ok, but let the lawn tell you when it's ready to be worked with scarification, if your not catching many clippings, don't.

Continue your winter fertiliser regime with foliar liquids until you see accelerated plant growth, then you know soil temperatures are ready for you first granular feed for the year.
We will run the Renovation Bundle Deal again for those who are ready for the  solid granular hit only 2Spec Accelerate will give.

NSW Police vs Australian Firefighters
Last Sunday Jonno Perez and myself flew to Sydney to be a part of the first inaugural match hosted by the Sydney Roosters.  It's going to be a regular event on the calendar where the Sydney Roosters and the community acknowledge and pay respect to the commitment and sacrifices the first responders and emergency services make for us.
The NSW Police and Firery's headed the day with a tough curtain raiser before on field demonstrations put on by the services.  You can imagine the passion and rivalry these two services had on the field, the Firery's held on to win with the NSW Police coming back hard late in the second half in a close match 26 to 22.
The spirit of the game was played and amazing, followed with the entertainment and the headline games of the Roosters Vs the Raiders men and women.

Lawn Addicts are very proud to be heavily involved in this initiative plus other sporting disciplines and charities, we will continue our community first ethos with contribution.
