Meeting Summary
First, a question was posed!
Community member Becca had been propositioned by a designer who was leaving the design biz and getting into lead generation.
We discussed the terms offered, βoohedβ and βaahedβ at the thought of never having to market again, and posed questions she should ask before signing on.
Then KL screen shared her Growth Strategy Research
Probably the most boring part of the meetup - but still useful (I hope!)
We talked about common growth strategies in the web design business:
- Market Penetration: Increase market share within existing market. (π€ Think template restyles to get more customers for less effort.)
- Product Development: Innovate current products or create new ones. (πΎ Like plug In shops doing cool shit)
- Vertical Integration: Take on another part of the manufacturing or distribution process. (πΈ Like a business that offers brand, web, AND photoβ¦ π AKA Us)
- Productivity and Efficiency: Improve processes to increase productivity and cut costs. (πββοΈ Faster, stronger systems and processes!)
- Share of Wallet: Increase sales to existing customers through retention and quality service. (ππ₯° We see this a lot β businesses improving their experience so the people LOVE who work with them become lead generators.)
- New Business Models: Change operational processes to create growth opportunities. (π€The first web designers to offer design courses or to start a template shop)
- Business Partnerships: Collaborate with other businesses to leverage key elements. (πLike teaming up with a copywriter or photographer. Let's make an alliance!)
- Market Segmentation: Focus on a small segment of the industry. (π€£Literally just niching down)
We took a brief detour to discuss bro-behavior, cold email icks, and our nemesises.
We ended with some goals we're aiming for!
- Learning Webflow!
- Finding a content and education sweet spot
- Hitting 12K months on the reg
- Getting to know our audience - for real!
