As you may have already known, I moved to Dubai in November of 2023 and started at Tara Rose (Saadiyat branch) in December in Abu Dhabi. I was commuting and moving to a new place, living out of a suitcase, for FOUR months.
I've even lived in a hotel 🙈
My work visa was rejected in Abu Dhabi so Tara managed to get my visa approved in Dubai. I've always wanted to be in Dubai so this was perfect! I got to learn color from the stylists and got a feel for the city.
It hadn't only changed a lot in the past 10 years that I've been gone, it's hotter! And more crowded! And lots of things just don't work - like how you can't pay for parking without a UAE credit card 🙈
Anyway, I moved to Dubai in March, finally finding a permanent place to live with a co-worker who also cut hair at TR.
In July I hurt my foot pretty badly and traveled to Canada for a month. I couldn't come back to work, so I thought why not just stay there and wait till I was actually able to walk again?
When I got back to Dubai, I knew everything had changed. It had been tense at the salon and I knew it wasn't the right environment for me to truly thrive. They let me go, and yes I knew it was coming.
Since then I've felt my creativity come alive again ✨
I've now been freelancing since mid-July and it's been so therapeutic to be able to set my own hours, build my own brand and choose what to put out online. August was so busy (!!) and September is picking up 📈
