el mes de la herencia hispana

¡Hola, profe!  As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, it is a fantastic time to highlight the diverse traditions, histories, contributions and cultures of Hispanic and Latino communities in your classroom.  Here are some engaging activities to bring this celebration to life and foster a deeper understanding of the rich cultural heritage.

I always begin each year using this article that introduces Hispanic Heritage Month for all levels.  It is a simple introduction and includes lots of interesting videos to add to your lesson.

Then, we learn about a famous Latino each day with our fun Hispanic Heritage Month Calendar.  If you have used it before, download it again!  I update it each year and I also include a Google Slides format as well as a Power Point format.  (In my opinion, the Power Point version works best.)

Then I finish up October by showing one of our students' favorite movies such as In the Heights, César Chávez or Selena.  They are meaningful movies that the students love.  Also, check out these videos to teach about Hispanic Heritage Month in your classes!

For the planners out there, here are some Day of the Dead and Thanksgiving Resources!  If there are any ideas or resources that would help you this year, please do not hesitate to reach out.  I am happy to help!

all the best in your teaching endeavors,
Katie
