Greetings Barre Bae!

The crisp mornings and chilly evenings are finally letting us know that fall is right around the corner and I couldn't be more excited. Though the weather is cooling off, my family's social calendar is starting to heat up! Next week's retreat marks the beginning of a season of celebrating, with so many framily birthdays in the fall that keep us busy right up til the holidays.

This week, we're meeting another FBW regular with a member spotlight, supporting my daughter's school fundraiser, looking over next week's calendar, and offering community members a sliding scale option to participate in the Wine Country river retreat.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I'm a graphic artist and printmaker based in Richmond, CA. The majority of my creative energy is spent designing wallpaper and stationery, and also prints and stickers that I sell at local craft fairs.

What is your favorite thing about practicing barre?

I love that barre is low impact but still challenging. It's so easy for me to be mentally prepared for a barre class because I know I can scale it up or down depending on how I feel that day. And no matter what "level" I'm at I always feel accomplished after class.

What makes barre different from other modes of movement you do/have done?

I feel more aware of my body when I'm doing barre since it requires me to focus on form and isolate movements. I like that barre requires little equipment because it helps me stay present in my body.

What would you tell someone considering trying barre at FBW?

I've tried many different fitness studios in the East Bay and FBW is one of a kind. The classes are small and somehow the time just flies by because Erica has the best playlists. I look forward to each class since it's outdoors–It's such a mood booster and has really impacted my overall mental health.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve noticed since starting your barre practice?

My core is stronger, which helps my overall strength. After I do barre I feel like my posture is great too. Sometimes when I'm not in class I think of Erica saying "proud chest" :)

Anything else you’d like to share with the FBW community about barre in general or my classes specifically?

I'm so grateful I've found this special space for movement and community!
