In the flower beds, the Dahlias continue to dazzle. With so many lost due to rain and flooding, I wish I had planted more! Dahlias hate wet conditions, and if they receive too much moisture, their tubers will rot. If you're interested in learning more about Dahlias, I’ve written a blog post here. |

Our hydrangeas are starting to fade into soft pinks and blues, making it the perfect time to bring them in to dry. Simply cut them at an angle, remove the leaves, and place the stems in a small amount of water for instant free fall decorations. |

Since we had such a tough flower garden season with the weather, I decided to add some cool-weather plants like carrots, lettuce, radishes, and broccoli. I don’t usually plant vegetables this time of year, but if you do, I’d love to hear what your favorite fall vegetable is to plant! |

Since I don’t have apple trees of my own yet, I took the grandchildren apple picking, and we had so much fun. Each of them insisted on having their own bag, so now we have a lot of apples! Baking is my favorite way to use them, and I’m sharing one of my favorite recipes that I’ve made for 40 years—an easy apple nutcake. I hope you enjoy it, and I’d love to hear what you think. |
