Hi House Church Leaders!

As we go through Revelation as a church, we will be sending out weekly sermon summaries and discussion questions to help your House Churches facilitate deeper study.

The Jealous Lover
Pastor Bill continued our series in Revelation by covering the letters to the churches of Pergamum and Thyatira. Both churches face challenges from external pressures and internal compromise, particularly concerning sexual immorality and idolatry. Pergamum is commended for standing firm in faith despite persecution but is warned against tolerating false teachings that lead to moral corruption. Thyatira is similarly praised for growth in love and faith but is rebuked for tolerating a false prophet who promotes sexual immorality and idolatrous practices for economic gain. The sermon emphasized the importance of holiness and faithfulness in the church, as moral compromise weakens both individual believers and the church’s mission in the world. The call to repentance is urgent, with the reminder that God provides for those who resist compromise and remain faithful.
Discussion Questions
1. How does the image of the "double-edged sword" in Revelation 2 challenge us to think about Christ's role in addressing moral compromise?

2. Pergamum and Thyatira's sins were those of sexual immorality and idolatry. What do you think are the sins and idols of our culture?

3. How can believers guard their hearts and minds against cultural compromises that threaten their faith today?

4. What does it mean for holiness to be both an individual and corporate responsibility within the church?

Communal Practice:
Group Accountability
Break out into the same groups that you were in last week.

Check in with one another how the last week went in regards to the struggles that were shared. Additionally, discuss struggles and encourage each other in the pursuit of holiness, particularly in areas of sexual purity and financial integrity.
Daily Discipleship: Daily Examen
Set aside time each day to go through the examen. This practice helps us review our days, identifies moments of compromise, and invites us into daily alignment to Jesus through repentance.

1. Gratitude
The whole day is a gift from God. Offer up the day and specific moments to God in thankfulness.

2. Grace
Ask the Lord for the grace to see the day through God's eyes. Recognize the moments where you listened to Him, and where you stepped into sin.

3. Review
Walk with the Lord through your day, hour by hour. What are thoughts, feelings, words, and responses that stand out?

4. Repent
Ask God for forgiveness for the moments where you rejected His love, and where you accepted the promptings of the evil one.

5. Renewal
Take what has been shown to you, look forward and prepare for the Lord's love and grace for the coming day.
