My calendar is full this week…and next. I love that, but honestly it also gives me a little anxiety too (remember, we can be two things at once). My time has been my own for so long. I've spent a lot of energy to get it that way over the past few years; I've set boundaries, made appointments with myself, given myself the space I need to serve the people and responsibilities that need me on the highest level.
Does a full calendar mean I don't get the flexibility to do any of those things? Absolutely not. It just means I have to get a little creative, find the pockets of time for the space I need (and want) and continue to say no to things that don't align with my values. These things have taken WORK over the past 3-4 years but my time is my own and that's all I've really ever wanted: FREEDOM.
Here are five things that have really helped me take control of my schedule:
1. Setting Boundaries
Honestly, this has been a game-changer. I’ve learned that setting clear boundaries around my time and energy allows me to protect my space. It’s about knowing what’s okay and what’s not and sticking to it, so I don’t end up drained.
2. Saying No
This one was tough at first, but learning to say no to things that don’t align with my values has made all the difference. It’s freeing to realize that I don’t have to be everything to everyone, and it's allowed me to make time for the things that actually matter.
3. Reviewing My Week on Monday Mornings
I set aside Monday mornings to map out my entire week. This is my sacred time to get clear on what needs to happen, what I can delegate, and where I need to set firmer boundaries. It helps me start the week with a plan instead of feeling reactive.
4. Getting Up a Little Earlier or Staying Up a Little Later
I’m a morning person anyway, but waking up even 30 minutes earlier gives me that extra quiet time to get organized before the chaos starts. It sets the tone for the day, and I feel way more in control when I don’t rush. If you're not a morning person, take the time in the evening before bed to prepare for the day.
5. Blocking Time for What Matters
I’ve started blocking out chunks of time in my calendar for the important stuff—whether it’s work projects, self-care, or even just downtime. If it’s not on my calendar, it’s not happening, so this has really helped me prioritize and stay on track.
