Well…hello First name / Lovely!
 
Well, it's raining like mad outside today and we're clearly welcoming Autumn into our world. I enjoyed the extra warm days that seemed to let summer linger with us, but also love moving into a new season. I like the changing and the distinct difference of each season here in Canada. I spent nearly a decade living around the world and it was one of the things I really missed from some of the different places I lived.

One of my favourite Instagram accounts is @richardscarrylove and this image popped up in my feed this week and made me smile. Apples, birds migrating, cozy fires - I love them all (and I see you Goldbug!).

STILL TIME TO GRAB A SEAT
 
If you are like me - gearing up towards the holiday season - and are keen to knock things out of the park and make this one your most brilliant one yes - it's not too late to grab a seat and jump into the fee holiday challenge I am running this week. I spent the first few years running my handmade business constantly feeling like I was ten steps behind everyone around me.
 
It took me a while to figure out that it was neither a race nor a competition. There are many steps to building a successful handmade business and the darn thing is made so much easier when you know WHAT to do and WHEN to do it. 
 
As a classroom teacher you wouldn't teach subtraction before teaching addition - some things are just meant to go in a certain order. 
 
Enter The Makers Map. This is a detailed guide that breaks building your handmade business into Five Steps. A fun quiz helps you determine what step you are on and then you dig into the details of that step - it outlines exactly what to focus your energies on. 
 
This is a much-loved resource (it's been downloaded 5K+ times!) that I hope you find inspiring and useful.

THIS WEEK: in the Heirloom Island Studio
This week I've been finalizing my holiday shop plans (I've had my shop closed for a few months) and figuring out what products I want to focus on marketing. I'm basically doing the Holiday Success Challenge right along the creatives I'm working with. In other words - having fun planning all the lovely holiday things.

JUST FOR: fun
 
On the recommendation of a friend - my husband and I watched Wicked Little Letters last week and it was a strange and wonderful film. It features a fabulous cast, hilarious laughs, and a whole bunch of interesting and strong female characters.
