First name / Hello,,
I'm writing to you from the woods in the minutes and moments after our most recent Uplift gathering.
I don't know that we knew it when we were first creating this community how sacred and special it would be and become, but it is probably one of the things I am most proud of here at Fearless that we've forged over the past year.
I'm proud of the community we've called in.
I'm proud of the way that my team has stepped up in their abilities to lead these conversations.
I am proud of the connections we’ve helped create among other integrated and like-minded entrepreneurs whose work is about building businesses in a way that brings out the best in each of us and cultivates the world we want to be a part of.
If you've been to Uplift, you know that there's an important tool that comes from the work of
Cynthia Greenawalt that we utilize as a way to get to know each other and to build a better understanding of the work we do and the things that are important to us.
It's called PACE, and it's a beautiful acronym that stands for:
Passion
Achievement
Communities
Endeavors
At this week's meetup, we focused specifically on the E, sharing as a community about our personal and professional endeavors that we're striving for between now and the end of the year.
We started this exercise by getting to know each other in small breakout groups, and then we each had a chance to share our endeavors with the broader community, playing back what we heard from our peers in each breakout session.
What I love about the constellation of our community is how diverse yet aligned each of our endeavors is. Some were as simple as wanting to turn over a new leaf and break ground on a brand-new garden. Others were as big and broad as attracting new clients or bringing a book into the world.
That last endeavor is actually mine. As many of you already know, I've spent the last five years finding my way through the process of writing my first memoir. It hasn't been easy; the stories it contains have been so heavy on my heart that it was hard for me to look at, let alone edit them for the last year.
But those of you who are on our Uplift call know that I am out in the woods to work on one primary thing, which is finding the path forward to finish the second version of my manuscript so that it can finally make its way out into the world.
What I found at Uplift this week wasn't what I was expecting.
I'm used to the ways that we magically make connections and find common ground over things like neurodivergence, our families, and the projects we're most passionate about, and I love seeing the ways that people unexpectedly get to know each other and create connections that manifest outside of the group.
This is why community is a core value to our entire team and to the work we do here at Fearless.
It's why we create programs like this, in addition to our mastermind for early-stage entrepreneurs:
Figure 8.
We know that by creating community, we can find common ground that can help us build better businesses and a better world.
But by sharing my endeavor loud and clear with the group, I realized something unexpected: I felt a sense of momentum and accountability building around the project. I've been carrying this venture alone, often unclear about what the next step should be, all while fearing that this work doesn't actually matter to anybody.
When I took a risk and chose to share my memoir-in-progress with others, I realized that there are people who are eager to read the stories I’m writing, and I also got to declare to the group a deadline that I'm aspiring to achieve when it comes to getting this draft done.
I left our community feeling inspired, like people have my back, and like I have a newfound sense of purpose when it comes to this project.
And I wouldn't have found that if it wasn't for Uplift.
I could wax on for weeks on end about why community is so important to me, but I will simply say this:
In creating community and finding new connections with like-minded entrepreneurs, I continue to rediscover and reinvest in the bigger why behind this business.
I'm so grateful for the people who continue to show up for these moments, and I invite those who haven't to come be a part of what we're building.
Hope to see you at the next event.
