¡Hola, profe!  As we enter October and approach November, it is the perfect time to immerse your students in the vibrant and meaningful traditions of Día de los Muertos. This Mexican holiday, celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, honors loved ones who have passed away through art, music, food, and rituals that bring the entire community together. It offers a rich cultural lesson and an opportunity to bring language learning to life in your classroom.

 

To help you engage your students, we’ve put together a variety of classroom activities that will deepen their understanding of the language and culture. These activities work for all levels of Spanish proficiency.

 

Coco and Book of Life are perfect movies to show students this time of year when everyone needs an infusion of culture!  Teach about La Catrina, ofrendas, Frida Kahlo, mariachis, corrida de toros, cempasúchiles, xolo dogs, alebrijes, and familia with our movie units!

 

Easy to make Sugar Skulls - Check out these easy to make calaveras that we make with our students every year!  Your students will enjoy this fun treat and you will love the low prep!
