“Lawson’s Kenpo Karate was opened October 1st,1992. The karate school was run by Mr. Donald Lawson for thirty years until he retired December 31, 2022. He was my instructor, and I never envisioned taking over for him after he retired. I just wanted to be his right-hand instructor just as Talion Sharp had been. Such large shoes to fill passing down what I was taught. 

 

I have learned much in this young journey since January of 2023. My sons and I trained in Lawson’s Karate for 12 years, earning our Black Belts in six years. I saw my instructors’ accolades and heard his stories, and it inspired me to pick up the competitive side and start competing at karate tournaments. I have accomplished Black Belt Rookie of the Year in 2019 and have earned two Golden Greek Awards through AOK (Amateur Organization of Karate) back-to-back in 2021 and 2022. I have seen what karate has done for me, as well as other people mentally and physically. The joy of what the students accomplish on their face, after their hard work and dedication, is my reward. Mr. Lawson saw Lawson’s Karate as a mission field, and likewise I do as well."
