HARBOUR GOLF
Seniors & Masters Tournament 2024
This year’s North Harbour Seniors & Masters Golf Tournament was held over three venues — Helensville, South Head, and Muriwai. Despite the high anticipation for three rounds of competitive golf, Mother Nature had other plans for the Helensville leg of the tournament. After a valiant attempt to play through, the rain proved too much, leading to the unfortunate cancellation of the round, but we do want to commend Helensville on their support, and the course was looking beautiful!

The weather cleared up just in time for the final two days of the tournament at South Head and Muriwai, where golfers were treated to picture-perfect conditions. Both courses were in excellent shape, providing an ideal stage for some superb golf.

At South Head, the players embraced the challenge of the rolling fairways, with many showcasing their skill and experience on the tight course layout. The following day at Muriwai, with its stunning coastal backdrop, players navigated the links-style course with impressive accuracy, making for a competitive and exciting day of golf.

Although the tournament didn’t go as originally planned, the two completed rounds were filled with camaraderie, sportsmanship, and remarkable play. A special thank you to the volunteers, and host clubs for ensuring that the event continued smoothly despite the weather disruptions. We look forward to next year’s tournament and, hopefully, a full three rounds of competition!

Calendar of events 2025
Dave and his team have been working extremely hard to get the calendar of events up and out there for 2025. The amount of work effort involved is monumental when you are receiving events and tournament dates from Golf NZ, North Golf itself, other Associations and our own Clubs … “and now where do we slot in Pennants” is a good one that gets the adrenalin pumping … just like Dave's speed golfing …

CONTESTABLE FUNDING
North Golf are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2024-2025 Contestable Fund.

This fund was initially created to help clubs implement new initiatives aimed at enhancing the experiences of new, current, and casual golfers, while also aiming to increase membership numbers.

Based on feedback from clubs, the fund can now also be used to improve a club's infrastructure, further enriching the experiences of all who use the facility. The fund can also be used for multi-year roll over projects.

Applications have been sent to all General Manager's and close on the 13th of October 2024.

what's a guttie
The invention of golf ball dimples happened accidentally. In the mid-1800s, the most widely-used golf balls were known as gutties, which were first created by Robert Adams Paterson using moulded tree sap. When golfers inevitably dinged up these balls, they found that the damaged ones had more consistent ball flights than the new, undamaged balls.
