On 23-25 August 2024, we held our first ever Cherished Retreat
taking 26 ladies and 31 children away for a weekend.

Did you know that a caterpillar actually dies before it’s recreated anew as a butterfly? 
 
It’s the same with our walk with the Lord. When we die to our old self, resurrection
life takes place within us. Daily we are kept in the cocoon of Christ’s love while He 
does the heart work. The transformation process is not easy, but it is life-giving. 
 
CHANGING DAY BY DAY
 
A number of ladies in our programme are returning to The Sanctuary Soul Care Centre for in-depth counselling and prayer ministry. The Sanctuary is an incredible organisation who we’ve partnered with to support and counsel ladies on their road to restoration. Their wise, God-honouring methods have been extremely valuable to many ladies and we are so grateful for the time, love, effort and prayers that they pour into each lady so personally and compassionately. 
THE COCOON OF HIS LOVE
 
One of the beautiful things that emerged from our retreat, was the need for, and subsequently, the start-up of a Support Group for ex-industry ladies. The group will meet twice a month, delving deep and working through an intensive course from Treasures. (Treasures is the organisation Cherished is based on and received training from. They had a significant impact on the way we do things and ultimately our reach). In this safe community, ladies will be able to share openly, be discipled, pray for one another and support each other. We are so excited for God to use this cocoon as a space to bring healing and true transformation. 
MOVING FORWARD
 
We continue to walk the road with a lady who reached out to us after receiving our gifts for 9 years (a miracle in itself). We managed to cover her car repairs and as a result, she’s been able to generate a more sustainable income with the online company she’s doing deliveries for, while still receiving intensive counselling and support. Another precious lady who has a young child and is currently pregnant, also recently joined our Restoration Programme. We’re assisting her practically, financially and through counselling to help her get on her feet and find gainful employment.
UNEXPECTED CHANGE
 
 
Sometimes  the outcome of a lady’s journey is different to what we were expecting… A lady in the programme decided to leave prematurely. Although we were saddened that she cut the process short, we know that ultimately she is in God’s care. She still came to the Retreat where God touched her deeply and she’s also managed to find employment and is learning the ropes of beauty therapy.

CHERISHED JHB NORTH
 
The team found there was a mixed reaction during the last 2 outreaches, with some ladies very open, receptive and excited about the retreat, and others either busy or not wanting to engage much. But how beautiful, when the team returned for the second outreach this quarter, the atmosphere in many places had changed completely! There was a lightness and many meaningful interactions. Isn’t it just like those seeds deep in the earth? Even when we can’t see anything happening, God is working and bringing new life. We just need to be faithful in watering the soil and God will do the rest. 
CHERISHED EAST RAND
 
The team had 2 incredibly meaningful outreaches with many God-ordained moments with His daughters. They encouraged one lady, who had been facing immense hardship to call out to God, because He longed to hear her voice. She burst into tears because her shame and guilt held her back from crying out to her Father. It was a precious, freeing moment and there were many more like it as the Holy Spirit moved tenderly.
After the first outreach, many ladies sent the team pictures of their beautiful, growing seedlings – The team had prayed specifically that God would make them grow. One lady was so excited that her plant grew in the dark! She had kept it in the cupboard and it still grew. Such a beautiful image of how God can minister to the ladies and bring new life, even if they are still in these dark spaces.
