Discover how our Smart Home Pilot is revolutionizing caregiving in Michigan, join us for the unveiling of our first Smart Home at our Open House on Oct. 17, and learn how you can support this initiative.
Dear First name / Partner in Progress

Please join us to learn about MOKA's innovative pilot project by attending our Smart Home Open House from 4pm-6pm on October 17. This groundbreaking initiative uses technology to transform caregiving with the integration of assistive, enabling, and remote technology. This pilot will demonstrate how Smart Homes can provide high quality residential support services to increase autonomy, independence, and satisfaction for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The first of its kind in the state, this pilot could serve as a model of care for over 2.3 million people with disabilities in Michigan. By investing in this model, we’re not only transforming how we provide care at MOKA, but also creating ripples that will affect disability services across the state.

What is a smart Home?
A Smart Home is designed to create an environment for increased autonomy and independence for people with disabilities by outfitting the home with assistive technology in tandem with direct and indirect support staff. We’re integrating cutting-edge, person-centered technologies that you may already have in your own home.
Here's some of the tech you can expect to see in our pilot:
  • Voice-activated temperature controls
  • Stove sensors for safety
  • Motion-activated lighting for ease of mobility
  • Technology-supported medication administration
  • Skill-building education through tech-based tools
These innovations are not just conveniences—they are vital tools to promote empowerment and safety for the people we serve in addition to supporting a new model of care in the midst of a Direct Care Workforce shortage.
