Discovering Fall Colors in Western Washington: Timing and Locations for Peak Foliage This Year.
Get ready for some stunning autumn scenery!
Fall has officially arrived in Seattle, and the autumn colors are slowly starting to show across Western Washington. While some areas, like the higher elevations of the Rockies, have already hit their peak, Washington's mountains—like the Olympics, Cascades, and the Selkirk Mountains near Spokane—are just beginning to display their fall hues.
In the Puget Sound region, the leaves are still mostly green, but you can expect the peak fall colors to show up around October 21. The Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges will see their brightest fall displays a bit earlier, around mid-October.
The good news? Western Washington’s beautiful trees—larches, maples, dogwoods, and cottonwoods—will hold onto their vibrant colors through early November, so there’s plenty of time to take it all in before winter’s “big dark” sets in.
