Hi All, My honeymoon was very much influenced by that years Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. I kept telling Sam that Paulina Porizkova was not going to be hanging out on the beach in Tahiti. Sam was not to be deterred, and off we went to Bora Bora. Frankly, I was shocked he was willing to fly that far on our honeymoon, but Paulina made Tahiti look AMAZING. Not that Tahiti needs any help. I told Sam I was writing about this, and he graciously took hours out of his day to research the Sports Illustrated issue that was so inspirational. Pic below!!!! It might seem like French Polynesia and her islands are far away, but theyâre an 8 hour flight from Los Angelesâjust enough time to have a meal, watch a movie, and catch a nap before youâre touching down in Papeete đ By the way, I am a huge Paulina fan. She is interesting, brilliant AND beautiful. She is also a very insightful writer. I have to thank Sam for â introducing" us ! Her book No Filter is a terrific read, and she is also great to follow on Instagram. P.S. A little housekeeping. I am leaving on March 23 for a conference in France, so if you have any travel planning you would like to do, we need to HOP ON IT RIGHT NOW. My last day in the office will be March 21, and I return on the 6th. |

The Timeline WHEN TO PLAN & VISIT |
|
If you're wondering when to visit⌠As a year-round destination, thereâs no âbadâ time, but there are a few key points to keep in mind. đ Dry Season: May and June. Well, we went Mid May, and it rained the ENTIRE TIME. It was comical how hard it rained. For two weeks. So much for the dry season. đ Whale Season: Humpback whales migrate to the warm waters of French Polynesia to give birth to their young. Seeing whales up close is a highlight of any trip IMO, so plan for a September or October trip if this is on your list! đŤ Avoiding Crowds: While it's hard to find âcrowdsâ in such a remote part of the world, if you prefer an âoff-seasonâ vibe, visiting during the shoulder months of April and November offers a perfect blend of good weather, quieter resorts, and a more intimate island experienceâwithout the peak season prices. If you're wondering when to book this type of trip⌠Planning ahead and planning early is key! Generally, booking 6 to 9 months in advance is ideal for the complex itineraries that French Polynesia often involves. I will need time to select the islands that best suit you and coordinate all the logistics. This timeline increases if you're on the hunt for more unique stays (private island, anyone?!), cool tours, and season-specific experiences. |

The Popular Islands BORA BORA & BEYOND |
|
Bora Bora: Often dubbed the "Jewel of the South Pacific," Bora Bora offers unrivaled luxury and natural beauty. From your overwater bungalow, you can marvel at Mount Otemanu and explore the lagoon. Take a boat tour, where you can snorkel with rays and sharks, or opt for a less âshark-yâ tour and enjoy a sunset cruise. Moorea: For adventure, head to Moorea, just a short ferry ride from Tahiti. Explore lush Opunohu Valley on a scenic hike, visit the island's famous pineapple and vanilla plantations, and snorkel among vibrant marine life in the lagoons. Moorea also offers unique opportunities to experience Polynesian culture, whether through a traditional dance performance or a visit to local villages. Huahine: For a more off-the-beaten-path experience, Huahine offers a quieter, authentic island escape. Discover the islandâs history at its ancient marae (temples), visit Faie Village to see the sacred blue-eyed eels, and enjoy the serenity of Avea Beach. Huahine's lush jungles, secluded beaches, and unspoiled coral reefs make it a perfect destination for those seeking tranquility. |
