October Prompt 2 Check-In
Mask
How are you exploring our latest prompt? What does it remind you of? What do you connect with when you hear it? I hope you are enjoying the process as you answer some of those questions and translate them onto the pages of your sketchbook. Below is a look at what we've been creating lately and a snapshot of our schedule for the last 2 months of the year!

INSPIRATION FROM OUR COMMUNITY
“I wasn’t sure about this latest prompt: Secret. But you’re newsletter was full of amazing ideas and examples like secret gardens, door or entry ways that have secrets or are mysterious, and the simple idea of the mess we make with our art behind the scene. I decided on 4 compositions I wanted to tackle - here are the 3 SECRETs I completed.” - KAREN

This has taken me quite awhile but I finally finished my pages for “blend" and “split”! I wanted to blend my love of words with art--it's something I have always wanted to do but I never felt like I had an idea that was very cohesive so this was actually a bit of an experiment! Here's a short process video.

“What if you let it go?" combines modern calligraphy with acrylic paint. It's inspired by a familial relationship of mine. There was a lot of disappointment, anger, sadness, etc. on my end but one day I asked myself this question and I just decided to let it all go. Holding on was only making me upset and I felt so much better and free from the burden once I did.

“Who were you before the world told you who you should be?” I used crayon to represent our younger selves and went over it with dark colored watercolors. I feel like it represents how the world / society / people around us may try to change us and cover our true selves up but at the end of the day, the core of us always shines through!

“What could go right?" I had the shape / colors in mind but I wasn't sure how to add the text. I originally had the text in the “L” shapes but last minute thought to add it to the black instead and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! I used watercolor, acrylic paint, and a white gel pen. This was also my art for “split”.

“Can I pet your dog?” Self explanatory :) Watercolor blobs and pencil doodles.

I really can't believe it but we have 4 more prompts left! Here's the rest of our schedule:
